Is it normal for you to not meet your new puppy until day you bring it home?

Bailey’smom, you’re right about the difference between natural nerves or that nagging feeling it’s a mistake. I think it’s natural nerves but I think I will have another conversation about hopefully meeting the little guy.

This would be my first male dog. Might be part of my nerves because I never considered a male dog - no offense to the boy lovers out there. That’s a whole new post, differences in gender.

Karen I really hope you find the right solution for you

But I can not help thinking of your thread

I can not understand why a breeder wants a deposit
- Yes, of course, perfectly acceptable if you get your money back
- if you do not want the puppy when you meet it.
a bi-blue or a blue merle - have many "drawings" and personally there would be some I would not like.

Is money more important for the breeder than that the puppy finds his very right people :confused2:

Funny that Caro writes "mahogany sables are not attractive puppies" I find them so beautiful :smile2:

Should I have a new puppy it was my favorite color
-but the puppy's radiance would be the most important to me :wink2:

Minnie is a tri-color and so beautiful inside and a wonderful mind :hugswe fit so well together
- even if she is not "mahogany"

I love Mahogany Sable now - even prefer it. But when you get a picture of a baby wombat that is masquerading as a Sheltie pup it's a bit disappointing. Anyway, classic example of an ugly duckling. Here's baby Tully and a baby wombat.

:lol:I see the color is the same, but little tiny baby Tully was also adorable as disguised "Wombat"

- not to mention when Tully was disguised as a fox as 3 month old :wink2:

- Imagine being so lucky and now you end up with -Tully as a Swan

Well said Hanne!!!

My breeder selected Layla for me based on what I told her I wanted to do with her: therapy dog at Walter Reed military hospital. She was perfect from day one. We got three others from the same breeder. She welcomed my visit (scheduled in advance) and was fine with me handling Layla. None of the breeders I am friends with refuse pre-purchase visits. I would decline to purchase in this case if I were you.

This is so hard. I keep going back and forth about this. She said she requires $100 check that she would hold and the balance paid in cash when I get the dog. I didn’t ask the question if I don’t feel the dog would work so me do I get the money back. You don’t want to even think that you wouldn’t fall in love with the puppy at pick up. That would much more upsetting than not getting the deposit back.

I think I need to talk with her again and raise these concerns. In the meantime I can’t bring myself to have the other breeder take me off her list.

Caro, Tully was an adorable puppy.

Katy was our first girl and a tri not my first choice for color but she was made to be Bailey's companion. I couldn't have picked a better match.

I had some questions with her as she'd come out of a less than ideal rescue situation but nothing in my gut said walk. I've never regretted our choice. My only mistake happened when my emotions over ruled my gut that told me the rescue wasn't compatible with our other two no matter what the rescue was telling me. Turned out there was a great deal they didn't tell us. My gut was right.

Questions and general concerns are normal but sometimes there is just that feeling that says something isn't right you shouldn't ignore.

I think spreading disease is a legitimate concern - however, I personally would not purchase a puppy I had not met. I think it's reasonable to ask you to take off your shoes in the doorway and wash your hands prior to meeting the puppy, but I don't think it's reasonable to refuse to let you meet the puppy.

This is so true written - also my experience.

I would rather miss a puppy than make a mistake, even though it will be so hard to think logically
It is a friend for the next many years you are looking for.

Personally, I would like to find a serious breeder who goes up in the future of his puppies.
Instead of money - silly?/measly? $ 100 (say it to many and it will be a good business)

Karen - have you thought about the possibility of another color was an option ?
