Itchy Puppy

So probably not the food. it got pretty bad yesterday, maybe 70-80? no idea why...it has been raining. could that be it? I mean, we have so little rain until November. Trying Zyrtec as thats supposed to be better for dogs.

Dr Jean Dodds has a test you can get that will tell you if it’s a food allergy, and which foods. I used it for Flurry when we were trying to figure out what was causing hers. She was just about Pico’s age. The food allergy test indicated it wasn’t food. My vet couldn’t get anything from her tests and I wouldn’t use Apoquel, it has terrible side effects. You can get the food test on her website.

I ended up taking her to a canine dermatologist who did actual allergy testing. Turned out Flurry is allergic to lots of things, outdoor and environmental. She has outgrown some of them but she still takes drops every day the derm vet prescribes for the seasonal ones. She’s definitely worse at certain times of year but so much better than when she was younger. It sounds like Pico’s might be seasonal too.

If the Zyrtec doesn’t help him you might want to try a consult with a dermatologist. Most can pinpoint the cause just by looking at them.
