Justus and Flyer 2018

Well THAT was an experience! Thrilling and terrifying! I had not ever been to a venue as huge as the Orlando Convention Center!

I learned about: bicycle taxi's. :) (it was a loooong way from the parking lot!) I learned about crate fairies... (amazing that every crate as far as the eye could see had a huge PINK Wubba on it!

I learned that AKC personnel are hard working, long hours and are seemingly indefatigable!!! I learned three more judges are the best ever, and will show to them every chance i get!

I learned that going with no expectations. is the best way. I relaxed, did not get nervous, well...maybe a little on that third round! I enjoyed everything about my trip from beginning to end and did not fall apart when I had maybe my 2nd most embarrassing moment while in the obedience ring.

I learned that people in the highest levels of competition are very polite, generous and supportive, if you just give them a chance. They get ring nerves too.

I loved the Obedience Classic, and hope that Flyer will take me next year. Or the next, and for many years after.

Justus qualified on his first round, was so proud of the boy! No auto finishes, minimal barking, a little wild eyed but not bad. Score 179.5

Justus missed a sit signal on his second round, and we lost like 12 points otherwise. Saturday ended with We are on the AKC TV in the utilty ring at 2:34 or abouts, we followed the English Cocker. (armband #3025) Saturday ended with 320.5 points out of 400. Nowhere near ribbon range...

Justus on Sunday was like one of the last dogs of the day. My nerves read the schedule wrong and we arrived at the showgrounds at 6:00 a.m., but did not show till 2:30 or so that afternoon. I was pretty much mental mush. We started okay and I was making the most of it, not letting on to my good dog that he was a little sloppy. We had some auto finishes, and he walked in a bit on the stand signal which cost us the signal exercise, and 51 points of 200 were lost.

I sort of looked at the scores, about 14 had lost more points, so we ended up about 15 from the bottom of a class of 55. I didn't care, I was smiling ear to ear with love and pride of my Justus UDX Master Rally RAE dog, the dog of my dreams... Well done big guy, you are retired from AKC Utility, and now get to play my other silly games. :D Tracking and scentwork a real possibility. Just maybe give that novice agility one more try... ;)

Today the qualifying lists for 2019 RALLY NC came out, was happy to read Flyer is qualified, but I'm just not feelin' it, Tulsa is sooo far for my limited income. Congratulations to all qualifiers, I saw your name Calliesmom. :D

Wow, sounds like you guys had a BLAST!

It seems so true that is you go with no expectations you are bound to have more fun and do better due to less stress.
Go figure, Justus UDX Master Rally RAE dog extraordinaire!

Video's???

Okay, so what happened with the articles... I brought the wrong bag to the ring. It was the bag I had used that morning and the two "used" articles were taken out but not replaced. I was supposed to bring the blue bag of articles to the ring. The steward said there were not enough articles and that's when I about died... the judge was great, did not let me get rattled. She told me to get someone to bring the other bag. My darling friend did not know where my crate was but she was on it - and found it, just as I was about to beg the judge to dismiss us... I asked the judge if she would like to fail us and she said no.

We completed the articles, he retrieved them correctly although I think we had an auto finish as the heart was about beating out of my chest in horror and embarrassment. I owe my friend, and that judge a pay it forward thank you because I had an idiot moment and they helped me overcome. There was a day when that would have sent me to tears. Now I just shake it off and know that this too happens to others, even the most accomplished. I thank the exhibitors who all came to me and recounted stories of things that have happened to them on the way in the obedience journey.

Hug your dog, love your dog. Enjoy the very special short time you get with them to show off your relationship. Even the funny, not quite right moments!

Bummer... the link just spins...
- just on my laptop, seems to be working on my iPhone

Oh my, I would have totally lost it myself! What a wonderful and understanding Judge and a kind friend to help. YES, pay it forward! Such a nice story to share at this time of year...

Now, pardon me while I go hug my dogs!

Are you wearing a burgundy top with black slacks?
What a fabulous run. So great with the focus and enthusiasm!
Justus is so calm and is just saying... hey mom... no worries...

I just saw the email from the RNC that Cran is qualified in Rally Excellent- we didn't get that last high score in Master to qualify for the Championship class but I had overlooked that he'd gotten all the scores for Excellent. I had already completely written off going but we'll have to see if we can afford to go.... it was so much fun in Ohio.

I found our scent articles to finish the run at 4:16 on the AKC TV Utility link. Whew... so it is finished. :D

Justus is going to try for UKC UD, we have a trial in February. I was surprised that he earned a qualification to go to Tulsa in Masters! Come to think of it, our last two legs came with 100's. I guess that did it. :) It would be really expensive to travel out there but I've got a room reservation and just might enter. If we get in, I can always cancel before the show closing. If it came down to Tulsa or taking Flyer to Orlando in Open, I would choose Orlando (because its closer...)

Calliesmom, who knows which way the wind will blow, Tulsa is possibility, just not a likely one.
