Liver disease

Oh dear, 10 doesn't seem that old to be having such a decline. I know how hard it is to have to wait for answers. I do think you need to get the thyroid issue sorted out and go from there.

Having cared for hospital patients for 21 years I can tell you I'm astonished at how people age differently. Some 80 year olds are peppy and sprightly, and others barely can get around and have multiple health issues.

Sorry Riley is feeling poorly and I hope you can find a way to keep him functional and comfortable. :fl :hugs

So we got fantastic news at the vet today! His numbers are actually dropping...his ALT 3 weeks ago was 307 and this time was 126 (high normal is 125). His T4 is still just a tad high (even for a Sheltie) so she lowered the dose and we'll recheck in 4 weeks. She did X-Ray his liver today and it is enlarged so we'll redo the X-Ray in 2 months and keep an eye on that. We truly have a fantastic vet...she did a very thorough check to see if he is in any discomfort (to see if that was the problem with his hind end) and when we were all done (just before leaving) I asked her if there'd be an office visit fee and she said 'no, I'm taking mercy on you, you've had it rough for awhile'. The best❤️❤️❤️!!!
We need to keep an eye on his liver and do some exercises to increase his muscles but definitely a positive sign today!

Yep, I can do that if you need me to.
You guys are truly awesome! However, I think I'll continue to look for something similar here for now. I'm thinking the cost to ship here may be too expensive and it may not even make it across the border.
What I may do is ask someone who has a P.O. Box at the border to order it for me and find someone going to shop to pick it up (we're only about 200 miles from the border, closest to Grand Forks.

With all the talk of trade and everything, I wish they'd open it up to non prescription pet supplements...I think it's the laws here that don't allow the sale of it. Stupid, antiquated laws!

I just caught this. I am so sorry Piper is fighting liver disease. We, too, have something liver-y going on with Bitsy. Sending prayers -- thank thanks for your great vet!

Actually Chris it isn't Piper, it's my older boy Riley but thank you so much! Our vet is fantastic...I'd taken Riley to another vet for a dental and he wanted to do a biopsy right away! Got him into our vet and she wanted to wait and try a few other things first and wait for his thyroid meds to be at right dose. Yesterday when she did a thorough check of his joints (to check for arthritis) she sat on the floor with him and did it...right there is someone who loves and cares for her patients! She's amazing!

I'm not sure what the shipping rate to Canada is, but this is the liver support supplement I give Bailey. It has helped drop her liver values to normal. https://shop.mercola.com/product/11...upport-for-pets-39g-per-container-1-container

You can also find it on amazon & chewy.com.
I do currently have Riley on Milk Thistle (just not this product). Unfortunately Chewy doesn't ship to Canada. I will definitely check this out to see if I can get it here. Thank you so much for this info!

What a great vet! You need to clone her!!! My old vet never charged for office calls. Only for medication and services. He was like the vet in the book All Creatures Great and Small.
He did it for the love of the animals! I know we do way more for our pets than years past.

You just gotta love a vet that has the compassion to give you a financial break! She is a keeper for sure!
