Miko ate an Advil gel cap

also I know it probably cost you arm and leg and will end up some more I would highly recommend finding good holistic vet. Tummy troubles are much easier treated with herbs.
This is something I would also suggest taking. Ingredients are highly respected naturopathic herbs which I keep as a staple in my house. I do use my own concoctions as I do know how to use herbs.

Thanks for the suggestion. I was actually looking at that website just yesterday.

This is what I'm giving him now...

... and I'm on my way to pick up some licorice root and slippery elm.

BTW... his urine seems pretty normal to me. It's clear-ish (a bit yellow tinted) and the amount seems pretty much like what it was before. What specific changes should I be looking for or concerned about?

So sorry to hear that Miko is not feeling good today. He is in my thoughts and prayers to feel all better soon.

I have just read this, what a horrible thing to happen to poor Miko on top of the problems he is having already. I hope everything works out ok, at least you knew he had eaten something and were able to take immediate action. I remember when I though Revel had swallowed a needle when he was a pup, I was literally shaking with fear. The vet said to feed asparagus tips BTW which would bind to any foreign body and help it pass through. Thankfully he hadn't swallowed it but it's a useful tip to remember.

As an aside, the most useful thing I ever taught my dogs was the 'leave it' command. If they pick up something they shouldn't off the floor or that I've dropped, they will immediatly drop it or not touch it. Revel even spat out a sausage once, I was so proud:smile2:

I know neither of the above would have helped Miko's situation but thought it might be useful anyway.

The thing with pups and kids is that no matter how careful you are, accidents can happen, just hope this one has no lasting effects. BTW, are there any 'human' painkillers that you can safely give dogs?

poor Miko.. I hope that he is feeling better soon..

that was really interesting about the asparagus tips.. I learn something new here every day..

re urine- you are looking for blood in urine, and changes in color/ quantity. I know it could be hard but just paying attention to small things like that tells you if your pup's kidney function good. As long as it just about what he normally does you good. If you still have snow to see urine color it helps otherwise just observe.
In a couple of weeks you might want to repeat blood work and test kidney function. You should NOT see black stools after charcoal is out. You might have been given some meds like carafate, pepcid/ famotidine/ cimetidine/tagamet/ to soothe intestinal lining and prevent possible ulcers.
I would skip on that digestive aid for now. Those protease, lipase and amylase are great but they are digestive stimulants and right now you need soothing effect of slippery bark elm type of herbs to slow things down, let intestine relax and restore itself. You can restart enzymes later on, in a week or so. That what I would do if I were in your shoes but you know your situation better.

Aaaah thanks for the tip on enzymes... I had been giving them to him, but will stop for a bit.

The 2 meds he's on right now are ... Omeprazole and Misoprostol. I'm going to call the ER Vet and ask whether or not I can give licorice root & slippery elm at the same time as the meds or if I should wait until the meds are finished.

The charcoal isn't all the way out yet, but I know that once it is any black stools or stools that look like they contain coffee grounds are a bad sign. Fingers crossed that I DON'T see anything like that!!

Thanks again to you and to everyone else who's shown concern and sent Miko their thoughts and prayers.
