Read the posts on Raw Bones ... they really help, but breath mints are a close second. (But to dogs they would smell like liver instead of mint - yucky still). Have you started trying to rub his gums and teeth? We have this great stuff from our Vet for Kai'a.Jenny, I must say that I am very happy you found the time to chime in! Your words are so very encouraging and I am thrilled that all of you feel that way! After he inched his way up to me last night and started licking my hand I knew that I did not want to give up on him just yet. He may need a little more work than we bargained for, but it will be worth it! Now we are on another mission, Hollywood needs some serious breath mints!!!
Bathing him is a pleasure because he just stands there and lets you manipulate and maneuver and scrub and blow dry and brush and...well you get the point lol. When we picked him up from the breeder she found a mat behind his ear and wanted to get it out and I tell you she was pulling so hard it was making my skin hurt but he never even flinched!!! 
Its like I tell my husband when he brushes our daughters curly hair you use short, light strokes to work out the "rats" as we call them you dont just keep pulling the bristles through till all the hair comes out!!! lol Anyway, we bought him some breath freshening spray from Petsmart its supposed to be good for plaque and stuff and freshen their breath. Hubby said it worked for all of five minutes lol
