New Puppy Looks Different

Layla always looked like a little miniature of her mother, except with insistent prick ears. We thought Bits was a throwback. Now she has the most magnificent coat!!

Another Coyote ;)

I agree.. Shelties really do look different, I saw one at the dog park the other day who looked like a Pomeranian/Sheltie Mix, I swear... he kept that dog OUTSIDE only??? ... so its coat was like a super thick like a pomeranian I swear, plus he was very small... He also said he 'cuts' it that way? I rather take my thinner haired guy looks any day of the week ;) At least Toffee looks all Sheltie, lol, even tho he has one floppy ear and one straight one... they really do go through stages, eh??

I don't care much myself, since I am not interested in conformation, as much as I can appreciate it since I certainly love the look of the gorgeous showdogs. But since it is not a field I am interested in, I never cared whether he'll turn out creme de la creme of the breed :) He is creme de la Creme for me, and that is the best kind, LOL

Last year in his first snow

Then this Summer he blew his undercoat, too...

He is just beautiful!! I love that you posted the pictures because his puppy pictures look just like our sweet Buddy. I think people make comments because our other Sheltie (Maggie Mae) is such a beautiful little girl and they expect he'll look like that right away!

You live in Nova Scotia!! That is one of the places I've wanted to visit for such a long time. I have a friend who wants to, also! One of these days . . . :smile2:

lol
oh you should DEFINITELY come to Nova Scotia, the Summer and Fall seasons are the best times! Bring Buddy, we'll have a 'Coyote' play date, and Maggie Mae can show off, too!!!! lol
Heck, I got a spare room for you guys if needed ;)

He looks fine! You must have gotten lucky the first time getting a sheltie that didn't go through an awkward phase!

Ignore the comments. Sheltie people can be real snobs around other sheltie owners. People were always telling me Aztec was way too big. As if I couldn't tell.

(Just to clarify - I am talking about the comments you are getting from outside people. The sheltie forum people are all very pleasant!)

amen Aztec. When I walk Fox, Rocky and Telly and Maizie everyone NOT a sheltie owner make some almost hateful comments on how skinny Fox's legs are and how spare his coat is, and Maizie is so tiny and looks like a giant cotton ball with legs. The snide comments I get when they see tiny little Maizie can be hurtful, like I didn't feed her right as a puppy so her growth is stunted ( She came to my rescue here when she was 5) and I should shave all that coat or try brushing her. I have learned to ignore these oblivious folks who live by the motto "ignorance is bliss" These folks must be very happy

looks like a sheltie to me too. Very cute.

Ember was very smooth coated as a puppy. She took almost 3 yrs for her coat to fill in. Don't worry about what people think, Ember got called a mini aussie this weekend and when I told them she was a sheltie they argued with me.:rolleyes2:
Here are pictures of Ember
This is 6 months

Boy it makes me ticked when people argue with me over the breed. I want to say, don't you think I know what my dog is!

We are still trying to figure out how to teach MMM how to growl when he hears the words "miniature collie"!!!
