Not a good day.....

It just hammers home the point that we can't watch these guys too closely. You just never know

This is so true. My parents are 87 and we were over at their place last week and we both are very careful about looking for dropped items on the floor...mostly pills. After dinner I was cleaning up the kitchen and Zak was smacking on something I opened his mouth to find a pill, with the coating melted away. I got it out and called out to my parents to find out what type of pill he found. It was a heart pill, lukcily I happened so see him. We have made the decision that they will no longer go with us to my parents. My parents are up with my sister in Ga. for a few weeks and we had to go spend the night over there due to our A/C was not cooling. I sat in moms recliner and had Mark look under it and he found a foil from candy and Maggie grabbed a gumdrop from besides my dads chair. We closed of the kitchen so that was one less place for them to look for junk. You have to be so watchful.

What you all said is too, too true! You can never be complacent.

Indy's morning ritual is to "hoover" the kitchen floor to see what the human kid may have left behind during a midnight kitchen foray!

The needle he found had a piece of thread attached to it. I expect he hoovered the thread, and got the needle at the end.

Bacca is totally out of sorts. He's missing his buddy and has the biggest Eeeyore face ever! He knows something is wrong.

And I'm missing his buddy just as much! I'd give anything to have his annoying, panting face in my face right now.

Everytime I think about how close this was, I just start to cry again...!

The ironic thing, is that just yesterday I received a Dogster or something email that showed pictures of X-rays of the absurd things that dogs eat (e.g. fish hooks, whole rubber duckies, etc.) I sent it off to a friend whose Belgian Shepherd is recovering from major throat surgery after eating a stick - to let her know that she's not alone....

Ok, I'm crying again....

Barb, I just found this. Surely St. Francis was watching over Indy and made sure you saw. Go ahead and cry -- from relief! I'll be praying for you and Indy -- and Bacca, too!

Did this happen at your "old" house or your "new" house? I bet the needle was on the floor because of all the stuff got moved. :dead:

I know this probably doesn't sound like a whole lot, but at least you saw it. Seriously. It would have only been a short period of time before Indy started acting strange. The vet probably would have never guessed he ate something, and it could have ended up a lot worse. It's very unlikey a vet would have thought to x-ray him. Indy could have been given pills for all kinds of crazy things.

He'll be ok. You'll see.

Sorry to hear about Indy Barb!! What a scare!!
like Smudge said atleast you saw him do it!! St Francis was looking out for Indy today and his guardian angel was working overtime!!
My aunts dog (golden=Crazy) jumped up on her counter and knocked off a Pyrex dish and ate all the macaroni plus the glass!!:eek2: He also had emergency surgery but made it though fine and has gone on to eat many more things!! Lets hope this is Indy's first and last at this!!
