Off To The Vet Again...

I'm going to have to increase her vibrant pets dosage when she starts feeling better. I was giving her a little less than the recommended amount.

She must have a weak immune system if my dog, who has cancer didn't even get as bad as Bailey and recovered faster. Or maybe her sensitive stomach is what's making it so hard for her to recover.

You are probably correct. She has a weak immune system, probably because she is young. She has not had the time to build up all her immunities yet. Her body has spent a lot of its energy fighting stuff off in her short one year of life.

I'm so thinking of you and Bailey and hope that your next steps fix things.

I went down the bloody diarrhea route with Capers. She always seemed to respond to metronidazole, however after one 6 month stretch when the diarrhea kept recurring I finally had her scoped and learned that she had irritable bowel disease. Longer courses of metro, plus pepcid and prednisone were the combination that worked to stop the diarrhea. She hasn't had a recurrence in the past 2 1/2 yrs and I believe that daily probiotics are the reason for OUR improved quality of life.

Hi Katherine-- just was curious about your note with IBS as Lexi has recurring diarrhea too (sorry to hijack your thread, Randi). Just wondering what the diagnosis was and how they determined it. I know in humans that the diagnosis for IBS is eliminating everything else. Thanks!

Same here with Pixie, who had IBS for almost two years. We did the metronidazole too for the stretches when she'd have flare-ups, but largely were able to control that eventually with a limited strict diet and probios like you, Katherine. I used Dr. Goodpet's for years until I started with the Vibrant Pets.

Any update on Bailey? I know you were a little frustrated with the negative results (but relieved too). We are hoping and praying that she is back to her old self really soon and that the tummy troubles are finally behind you. <3

Thank you for asking Jenny :)

Bailey's stool seems to be getting a little firmer and darker every day. If this continues, I predict her stool will be back to normal after the weekend. I am going to try to give her a few pieces of her normal kibble tomorrow as a treat. Hopefully, it goes well.

My parents' dogs are already eating half of their normal food and half of their prescription. They're doing fine.

Yes, I changed Capers diet along the way, per the vet's recommendation. It's funny, in those days I wasn't doing much training with treats, so there wasn't much to eliminate from her diet, except for dental chews. However, the diagnosis of irritable bowel disease was made after I put her through an upper and lower GI series (scoping with biopsies).

I'm so glad to hear that Bailey is doing better !

My sheltie has IBD with the bloody stools, loose and solid. I have him on the Royal Canine dry and can food. Lately it seems like he is straining and nothing but a few drops of blood are on the ground. Finally after the second time, he does a solid stool, but with blood throughout it. Does anyone have the same problem? Also what treats, if any, are safe to give him.

Have you tried Royal - Canin Gastro Intestinal Low Fat LF22 ??

Why not use his dry food as treads?
I have always use there food, and they all think it a tread too

Minnie's stomach was very up and down
- that there is little blood it maybe is because thin stool is hard at the bowel.

We have tried many good brands, but no one has been quite ok for a longer period.

When I had Minnie's stomach in order with a special food for sensitive pancreas, stomach and intestine.
- I tried Fromm Gold Adult and now Minnies Stoll is a pleasure :lol:
