Oh no, Cricket needs gallbladder surgery

I have a meeting on Aug 9th to discuss my questions and for her to examine Beau...

1. do you offer senior discounts
2. does Beau get any medication prior to surgery? Antidepressants?
3. Will he need to take Urosol after surgery?
4. Restrictions: How long for recovery?
- On leash for potty breaks/no jumping on furniture/no stairs/HOW LONG - # of weeks?
4. How long for complete recovery - back to normal - allowed to do all the above
5. Medications for pain
6. Diet? Can he be on the same diet

When Gavin had his surgery to remove his mast cell tumor on his hip, his stitches popped. The vet did not say to crate him, just no running or jumping. I confined him to my laundry room when I wasn't home but it wasn't enough. I wish I had crated him, I wish they had told me to crate him. I also wish I had given him all the pain meds (there were like 3 and I only gave him 1 or 2) even though he wasn't in pain. The more he sleeps, the less active he is and the quicker he heals up. The vet didn't explain that part. The post surgery release notes/visit was in no way adequate. my biggest gripe.

Thanks for explaining in such detail the post-operation issues to watch out for, Cindy. I feel terrible that Gavin had issues after his operation... I will add your notes to my list to go over with the surgeon!

I did get a pen to keep Beau contained. I work from home so I can ensure my eyes will be on him at all times. This pen can go from 6 to 4 panels. It is light enough to move from room to room. I even purchased an inexpensive daybed for my 1st floor so he can be in the same room as me.

It wasn't too bad a healing process once the stitches popped. I think maybe 2 weeks of 3 a week bandage changes? The place wasn't a long drive so it worked out. But the bandage had to be lightly stitched in place. and he now has a bald patch the size of 2 quarters on his hip/high thigh. the hardest part was watching it pop and seeing the wound and not being able to do anything. because of the location on his hip and how tight it was, it was unable to be re-stitched. Now why none of that was explained to me when he was released.....And then as soon as that healed we started radiation on his paw; it actually delayed the start of that a month or so.

That’s a great pen Gloria, that’s what I use for Blueberry. I have 12 panels…keeps her contained when I need her to be and she’s never tried to get out of it.
