Oh no, Cricket needs gallbladder surgery

I totally agree with Sharon. Lacey was older too when she was done, and had an incident like Cricket the day after I brought her home. I was panicked, the vet hospital was an hour away, it was 6 a.m. They told me it was normal and what to do (rest, very limited diet) and sure enough, she was fine the next day just like Cricket. They are seeing so many more dogs with this now that you have to believe that the surgical process is improving. Beau will do great, Gloria. And you will too! :hugs

❤️❤️❤️❤️

That is a huge incision but Cricket is doing so well after not even a week! The incision is looking really good! What’s the recovery time with that Gloria? How long do you need to limit activity?
I have a meeting on Aug 9th to discuss my questions and for her to examine Beau...

1. do you offer senior discounts
2. does Beau get any medication prior to surgery? Antidepressants?
3. Will he need to take Urosol after surgery?
4. Restrictions: How long for recovery?
- On leash for potty breaks/no jumping on furniture/no stairs/HOW LONG - # of weeks?
4. How long for complete recovery - back to normal - allowed to do all the above
5. Medications for pain
6. Diet? Can he be on the same diet

Cricket has recovered amazingly well. Tully did not do so well - I think a lot of the problem was the poor pain management. We were given gabapentin only, I was furious and she ended up going back in to manage her pain. Eventually they gave us codeine, but oh my gosh I was angry. I do not understand why she didn't just go home with a Fentynal patch. I know the govt here has tied up opiate prescriptions to a ridiculous level, but denying a dog adequate pain relief is cruel. So my recommendation is make sure they will make available strong pain relief to go home, or at least make it readily available if required.

The one thing I wasn't expecting though - Tully's belly fur grew back, but they gave her an epidural and it has never really grown back properly (although her other fur covers it now). Apparently that is a side effect in dogs - so you might want to check if Beau is getting an epidural.

OMG!!! That is BEYOND infuriating! I will make sure to ask about an epidural. Thanks for giving me a heads up on that. I am so sorry that Tully had to endure so much pain. I will make sure to ask what pain meds they will prescribe! I have a list of questions to ask the surgeon when we talk next week.

BTW - he will definitely have to take Ursodiol after surgery. It's quite expensive so it's worth finding out whether you can buy the human capsules and divide it up yourself or get it compounded. And will they give you some or get a script to fill before you take him home (then you can shop around for the best price).

I have already received a prescription Ursodiol since his initial ultrasound and I can order from Chewy which has great prices!
