Our Sketchie boy, cancer/amputation

Trini, I am so very sorry to read about Sketch and his surgery- so very happy that you did not have to put him to sleep, how very scary for you and Bob.
Hugs to you all.

Trini, you know how happy I am that Sketchie is up and recovering. :hugs

but I have to say that that photo is TOO CUTE! He does look like a flower... or a satellite dish with a cool paint-job! OK, OK, don't tell Sketch I said that. I can see that he is giving you the first-class hairy eyeball for making him wear that thing!

LOL Megan...I most certainly won't tell Sketchie what you said or you will be added to his s*** list...a list on which I am currently ranked at the top.

Thanks, Susan. Hope you, Mark and your furkids are all well. Hugs back to you...Trini :)

I read this earlier and I couldn't finish it.....
so glad to read that Sketch's cancer wasn't the bad one and that surgery could help him....

I haven't lost a sheltie to cancer but my first two boys both had chest cancer- and not even the same kind- but obviously surgery wasn't really an option for them............

Trini, so sorry about Sketch. Prayers for a speedy cancer free recovery.
Btw, he looks like the flowers in the Wizard of Oz.
Take care,
Pam and Sunny and Snow

I pray for a speedy and total recovery (and removal of the hated collar). I also can't help but be thankful for the marvelous timing; it sounds like if that leg had broken even hours prior, you wouldn't have had the test results and the ultimate outcome would have been tragic. Jewish belief is that miracles are not supernatural events, but rather miracles of timing -- and you and your beloved Sketch are the beneficiaries of a miracle.

Wow i am so flad you didn't have to face suddenly putting your dog to sleep. And so happy he should have many years ahead

Thank goodness for the wonderful timing of the test results. Now your blue boy is up and around and will be better every day. I send thoughts and prayers to you and the rest of your family that things continue to go well and recovery is speedy and 100% successful. Maybe you can convince Sketch that blue is the new black, the pink, well, he'll just have to deal with that, maybe an extra cookie? I know you will keep us posted. :fl :hugs

My husband has just reminded me that although we did think we might need to let Sketchie go that morning....our vet would have definitely urged us to wait for the biopsy results and he would have kept Sketchie sedated and on pain meds until the results came in and a decision could be made on factual evidence as to what was fair to Sketch. Seeing Sketch in so much pain all I could think of was that pain needed to end...but cooler heads than mine would have won out.

The ability of our little ones to accept what has happened to them, take it in stride and go on, is humbling. Last night for the first time Sketchie slept the full night and seemed totally comfortable and this morning his cold wet nose poking my arm woke me up. His tail is wagging big time and if he wasn't on lead when we went outside he would be trying to race across the yard at full speed.

I am reading all your kind well wishes to Sketche so that he knows he has lots of Sheltie friends cheering him on...if he could speak "human" I am sure he would say "Thank-you for the well wishes, but where are the cookies????"
