Paws and cold weather!

I don't have a problem with them but you have to get used to doing it...it's like a tight balloon. I either sit on the floor or on the stairs, stretch the bootie and the slip it over the paw then I pull it up a bit if it needs it. Then I continue with the remaining paws. Piper doesn't like it but once he's outside he doesn't even notice them. I need to get some for Dinnie now that he's full grown (he won't fit Pipers).

Turning 70 in December floor sitting is not an option, takes me to long to get up! Ha ha ha :)

I’m glad I found this thread! I’ve always trimmed Watson’s paws but he was a year and a half old before I had to worry about him in the snow.

What is this wax or salve you guys put on their paws? Watson usually just goes in the snowy driveway and he is pretty low energy, alway has been even though he LOVES the snow. I’m not sure if Miss Roxy is going to need longer walks on the road.

Also, do you guys put coats on them in the very cold? It’s supposed to be 11*F next week and Roxy has a naked puppy belly.

I just ordered a coat for Cooper when it comes in I’ll post a picture. I always buy from this company for my dogs Canadian winters can be harsh. It’s a Canadian company you can check out their website chillydogs.ca I ordered the Alpine Blazer it has some protection from the cold, waterproof and belly protection also says it’s for heavy coated dogs. Coop loves his walks and we aren’t sure he will be a lay around the fireplace kind of pup. lol

how far north are you? I’m just across the border with Ontario. We sometimes get polar air come down and we’ll see -30sF but that’s not super common although I too have a Canada goose parka!

the cold seems to be more an issue for his paws than his body but he won’t keep his boots on. :sneaky:

I’ll check that company out. It’s good to know they make them for the heavy coated breeds.

I live in Southern Ontario in a small town called Paris about an hour from Toronto.. The weather in winter is so changeable as you must also have. Last year we seemed to get a lot of ice. I have a Canada Goose Parka and a Land’s End Jacket lol. Winter is easier if you dress for it, our senior dogs didn’t care to go out in it, but Cooper loves to go...go...go! :)

Cooper’s coat just arrived. I haven’t got the strap and belly flap done properly yet, but gives you an idea of how they fit. Here is the funny part, we got an email from the company when we ordered asking us to remeasure as the measurements seemed large for a Sheltie. :) We had measured everything according to their instructions he is just a bit light in the weight department, but that will change. It has a wind proof / waterproof shell and Microfleece Lining.

Darci a picture of the coat is posted below. It’s lovely and should serve well this winter.
