Potty training, hmmm...

At night we just have to remember to take Minnie out every half hour or right after she drinks-eats, this is when we are tired and not as willing.:gaahI think when I am off this summer I'll be better at it, I won't be as tired

Cooper is on Day 10 of no “accidents” in the house. A lot of it us us picking up on the signs ( he goes in circles when he needs to poop lol), pee he does on demand now. We have bells on the door, but so far that’s just a noisy toy. He will be 15 weeks Thursday and he is really good about going into his crate at night and stays silent all night. The weird thing is when I get up and open the crate he doesn’t seem to want to come out.....thoughts??? No problems with him coming out of the downstairs crate I open it and he comes flying out. Lol.

Minnie is getting a little better with not peeing in the house, it really depends on her activity level and water intake, but she is letting us know she has to pee sometimes now- walking toward the back door. She's holding it better too. When she goes outside to pee, she gets a treat. She pooped in the house today while my niece was watching her though. Sometimes Minnie doesn't seem like she wants to come out of her crate when I get home after work- I think it just means she's comfortable and cozy!

Frustrating!!, Minnie pooped in the hallway- just now, after my husband had taken her outside to poop, and waited 5 minutes. She came in, pooped in the hallway. :gaah:gaah:gaah:gaah:gaah:gaah:gaah:gaah:gaah

It seems like they all eventually get it, but the route by which they get it can be very different. My first Sheltie, Baron, did it sort of normal in that he went less and less in the house until finally he didn't do it anymore, although he was close to a year old before he finally quit occasionally pooping in the house.

Devon was completely different, and for a while I was wondering what I was going to do with him. I had to take him out every couple of hours or he would go in the house. He didn't go at night in his crate, although I was getting up in the middle of the night to take him out. He would also go upstairs and pee on the floor in the loft where I didn't see him. He was just about 5 months old in early November and he was still completely untrustworthy in the house and would go on the floor just as often as he did at 3 months if you didn't take him out every couple of hours. Then all of a sudden sometime between early November and Thanksgiving he suddenly "got it". I don't know the exact date at which the light bulb went on over his head, but it occurred very suddenly and from that moment on to this day he never went in the house again. It took me a week or two to realize that he had figured it out, and another few days to put him to the test by not taking him out every couple of hours, but by Thanksgiving he had near total freedom in the house while I was home and he never had another "accident".

That worked wonders for Liam having his own place to potty... He could take his time and I did not need to stand there and watch him go. Although, I did say... "do your business or Go potty!" Just to get him used to going on command.
She's perfectly safe in the pen also, so if we have to leave her there and go back in the house we can. The accidents usually happen when we are pressed for time and impatient. Frustrating, but we have to change the way we are doing it so she doesn't think she can just poop in the house

Tully came toilet trained, thankfully, because she toilet trained Mr D who was still pooping inside at 6mths! As for the bell - how do you do it! Mr D cottoned on that it got my attention so I had to remove it, but I could never teach Tully. She used to whimper at me when she needed to go out, but after staying with my mum (having outdoor access) she doesn't tell me anymore. I've tried her with the bell and she's not getting it - the Burmese has now worked out it gets my attention tho!

Perhaps it's true when they say you can't teach an old dog a new trick lol...
While Piper caught on quick (a sheeps bell at his level on the wall) Finnie would go up to the bell and ring it when he wanted to go outside. If I ignored him (because he'd just come in) he'd get both paws going BANG BANG BANG on the bell:ROFLMAO:...he'd ring it so hard it got knocked off the wall! Off it came and we had to find a new way for him to tell me he had to go out! Doesn't work with every dog lol.
