Well he is home now,has been pacing for a bit now lying down And he is horse sounds like a puppy bark. Has eaten here at home. So let the healing begin
I still have not had a good look at his incision but have felt it I think it's maybe 4 inches I will look when he is more settled.

I know just how glad you both are that he's home. He sounds like he's doing great, challenge will be to make sure he rests and doesn't overdo. It was a major surgery. I imagine they gave you some meds to keep him quiet. I'm so happy it turned out well.

I’m so happy to hear he’s back home! The next couple weeks will be the most challenging at keeping him quiet, especially as he heals and starts to feel better!
Just a bit of advice I was given by Ann when Piper had his surgery…yogurt works great for giving pain medication (if you were given gabapentin you can open the capsule and mix the powder directly with the yogurt), worked great for Piper and no fussing with putting the pill into meat or cheese. Also, dogs tend to pant when they’re in pain…just an FYI…I didn’t know this, my vet had to up Piper’s dosage.
Give Teddy a gentle pat from me and you get some rest too Ron…you’ll be busy over the next little while.

Don't worry about the hoareness. It's from the intubation they use while he's under surgery. It should go away in a day or so. Keeping his food soft until then will help.

Teddy has been pacing quite a bit and probably cussing me out for his doughnut headware I don't know how it can be comfortable to sleep on an angle. He seems to be doing Ok since I decided to suspend his diet temporarily he is enjoying a little extra food

Yes, the donut might alter how they sleep and they certainly know how to look sad to us! What is he receiving for pain medication…do you think he’s in any pain? Piper I’d had to get the vet to increase his dosage for the first few days and really every dog (like us humans ) is different. I hope your able to get some rest.

I hope Teddy is calmer today and settled down last night for you. I agree with Lisa that the pacing is most likely discomfort and I'd talk to your vet about more pain med, or adding something for the first few days. Adding Gabapentin to whatever they're giving him usually helps if he isn't already getting it.

It takes a while for the body to process/eliminate the anesthetic as well. If he continues pacing though he might be in some pain. Everything else OK - eating, drinking, and potty?
