Puppy Coat Question

I know what you mean. Beckon at 9 months weight 35 pounds, is 20 inches tall, and is as big as Bitsy Boodle. When I look at him, I think, "Where's my baby puppy?" :confused2: Then he starts chasing his tail and romps up to kiss me, and I can see he's really just a little Sheltie boy in a big package. His face markings look like the feathered end of an arrow. So now, instead of "Beckon Puppy (my DH said he was getting too big for that), he;s my Beckon Feather! :wink2:

I have noticed that Zak's adult coat is really black and has a really good shine to it. Right now he looks like all legs and head!!

Indy's outer fur is still as soft and fluffy as a puppy and only marginally longer, augmented by his huge undercoat, which makes him look like he must weight about 50 pounds. And Indy is almost 2 years!

Bacca is slowly growing his guard hair out, but it is still short (probably because the freakin' groomer cut if off before Xmas). His hair is definitely adult though where it is growing.

Chris...Beckon is quite the monster pup! Are you feeding him Wheeties?

With everyone talking about uneven teenage stages it sounds like we have more to look forward to than coat abnormalities. Ah...puppyhood things I've forgotten.

I too have been working with my pup with the grooming stuff, he's not enjoying the brushing so much so we teeter on whether I want to hold him still or make it positive. I swear I've never been more wishy-washy in my life

I started by making it positive. Just little swipes, and lots of treats. Bacca now as zero issue with grooming with the exception of nail clippers, which is why we moved to a dremmel. Bacca mostly just snoozes through the entire event.

However, Indy came to me at 10 months, and while he's mostly ok, he does have his moments when I have to pin him down under my legs - especially when I'm heading towards his poop chute! I guess his breeder, who had multiple dogs to groom, just did not put up with nonsense, and went straight to business. Of course, having proper grooming tables, etc. helps!
