I agree it does sounds like a puppy mill, hmm... I am big time gardener and there is website where everyone could post their reviews of online companies they deal with so before ordering from company I do not know I would go there and see how they rated... is there anything like that for animals?
I did have pretty similar experience with Diana, it took us a while to decide about dog, initially we looked into rescues, most of them did not have Shelties, one that we were offered to look was very hyperactive with high prey drive and went after every cat ...we finally decided we should get puppy since we have cats so pup growing with cats would never see them as prey was our thinking.... anyway... few of breeders did not return our calls, one returned but never followed through coming back to us with details... we also were limited timewise as restructuring our lives for upcoming baby pup takes time... so we ended getting pup from BYB, where we had our pick of the litter, which fit our time frame and we knew which questions to ask, what to look and the answers where satisfactory...
