Hi, I am jumping in here without reading ALL the replies, but Bear (Mom and Dad's T sheltie angel) was "real" orange/red. You can see his picture in Cleveland's album.
I always thought he was that color because we couldn't keep the bugger out of the pool. His hair was very coarse and thick, but he spent most of his day outside and only really came in at night and when the weather was just terrible.
Now I will go back and read....................

what do you mean by tall, timber dogs? You lost me there!
Tall Timber is one of the older sheltie kennel names.

Diva has several Tall Timber dogs behind her though Belmark. A lot of Macdega Piano Man on both sides.
Justice is Banchory and Piano Man on the sires side and a small obedience line based on Peter on the dams. Ember's mom is Justice's littermate and linebred on Banchory Deep purple and Blue Thunder on sire side.

I recall that at the National in Denver in 1991, the Tall Timber dogs did quite well. I remember several blues that the coloring was very clear and quite striking. A beautiful dog that did alot of sireing of theirs was CH Tall Timber's Far Out Frisco. That was the first time I saw their dogs in person. If memory serves me right, the breeding program was two sisters, and they lived in Colorado. Beautiful tall girls. For the life of me I can't remember their names. You can see, that the dogs from that lineage seem to be located in the surrounding states, as noted by the replies.
I think since the late 90's people are flying their bitches to the dogs more, and we are seeing get from a dog in the East, whelped in the West. Years ago, dogs in one part of the country looked decided different (not better or worse) from the dogs in another part of the country. Now, you can find deeper quality throughout the states. That's what makes the National so much fun, to see different dogs.

Bailey's great-great grandfather is Tiburon on her dad's side. This is so funny. I never realized how closely related some shelties are.

Bailey doesn't have any tall timber's on her family tree.
But lots of Macdega's and Banchory's on her dad's side. Including piano man.
Her mom has a lot of Banchory's and Jade Mist's

Pretty cool---sounds like a lot of us are interrelated somehow.
