Sally is safe!!!

Oh what a relief. Miss Sally Belle is the cutest rescue dog since Zippy. I'm so glad she will be OK and go on to live the good life. Thanks for your good care of her Carol!

Yesterday, my 11yr. daughter and I picked up Sally at the Cobb County Animal Shelter. She smelled awful. Worse than you can imagine. I was told that she spent the weekend in the isolation pen where dog bite cases are kept. The shelter was so full that is the only place they had left. I don't think she had much space so she must have slept in her own waste. We stopped by my parents house for dinner since they live in Cobb County and the drive home is really bad during rush hour. My parents love dogs but really don't get the whole rescue thing. I was a little nervous about bringing a smelly, skinny senior dog to their house. Also, their Sheltie, Alex just died about a week ago. But, it went fine. We had to rinse Sally off on their deck before taking her inside. But, she seemed to appreciate being cleaned off. After her bath and some food she settled down on the door mat for a nap.
She was not too happy about the ride in the car to my house though. She spent most of the 45 min. drive barking. I'm not sure if it was the crate or the car ride she disliked. I have 2 Shelties, Rusty and Finley. Finley has been known to be really awful at greeting dogs. But, the greeting with Sally was perfect. No barking. Everyone was polite. I didn't have the heart to make Sally spend the night in the crate so I let her sleep in the kitchen. She must have been happy because I didn't hear a peep all night. She did leave a giant puddle on the floor. I might give the crate a try tonight. Sally did not eat much breakfast this morning but, I will see if I can get her to eat more today. She's so skinny.
Here's some pictures:Sally
Sally has a tumor on her neck that is about the size of a grape. The shelter estimated her age to be 10 but, I think she is much older. If anyone would be interested to donating money toward her care I'm sure the rescue would appreciate it. They originally declined to take her because money is tight and old dogs tend have a lot of veterinary bills. Here's the Angel's Among Us website. Also, please "like" and "share" their Facebook page and stories. You never know who you will reach and inspire on Facebook. AAU saves huge numbers of dogs and cats from high kill shelters around the state of Georgia. Most come from rural shelters where they have little chance of being adopted.
I can't thank you guys enough for the prayers, emails and donations for Sally. I can say without a doubt that she appreciates it!

Billie Burke will be sending along her donation as well for Sally. They were rescued practically on the same day.

Thanks for sending the story and such beautiful pictures of the babies. Thank you so much for giving a darn.

Changing the world one dog at a time.

Hugs,
Kate

That is such wonderful news, and I am sure you are so relieved. Sending good wishes and good health your way. Thank you for having such a good heart. I lived in East Cobb for eight years and one of the things I noticed was how many people had pets riding in there cars. I said to hubby I can live here! I was right. Now one day at a time, before you know it Sally will be jumping all over you.

Thank you!!!!:hugs
Lynnel, That's interesting that you lived in East Cobb. That's were I grew up and my parents still live there.

Guess what?!!! Sally is going to be on TV! She's going to be the "pet of the day" on the local Fox morning show on 9/25/12. I will post the link for you guys next week. Hopefully she will do ok. I'm not worried about behavior, she's always well behaved. But, she does have an itchy skin allergy. I hope she does not stand there scratching on tv.

You go Sally. A tv star for a day. My Danny is having a flare up of his skin allergies too. I believe she will do just fine and maybe melt somebody's heart by her sweet demeanor. Maybe a senior will think she is the perfect pooch for them. Cannot wait to see the video Carol. Good luck Sally Belle!

I'm so proud of Sally. What a turn around she has had in her life in just the past several months. Sally will do great on TV and I can't wait to see the video!!!! Go Sally Go!!!!

We had such a funny experience w/ Sally the other night. Beth, the woman from the rescue that is going on TV w/ Sally wanted to meet her. So, we decided to meet at an adoption event. The event was taking place on Thursday night at a boutique pet store. The town this store is in, Roswell, has a street festival on Thursday nights to promote the local restaurants and businesses. Roswell was a cute small town at one point but, now it's really a busy Atlanta suburb. I really wasn't expecting much because it was a Thursday night. Boy was I wrong. The streets were packed w/ people. People were spilling out of every bar and restaurant. Sally took one look at all those people and put the brakes on. I was running late and we had to walk a long way so I was trying to hurry Sally along. Sally had other ideas, she ducked under a sidewalk restaurant table. Luckily the couple at the table was totally unfazed by having a strange dog sitting on their feet while they were eating (they have 3 dogs). We had a nice chat while Sally regained her composure. Sally never wants to be picked up but, at one point I looked down and Sally looked up at me and waved her paws. Just like kids do when they want to be picked up. She relaxed some when we got to the pet store. There was a litter of puppies there. Sally wasn't too sure about the puppies. She seemed a little shocked that those tiny things were alive and refused to look at them. My daughter and I bought a turkey sandwich for our dinner and sat on the ground w/ Sally to eat it. Sally is a picky eater and never begs for food. But apparently she does like turkey sandwiches. She quietly picked up our paper plate w/ her mouth and slid it over to where she was standing. This is so uncharacteristic for her. I couldn't help but laugh and give her a little snack. The meeting w/ Beth went great. She's crazy about Sally. Not only is Sally going on tv but, she's also going to be featured in a couple of online articles to promote the AAU senior adoption event next week.
