Sheltie Weight...

Brodie is 15.5 inches and just weighed in at an even 25 lbs. He was 26 lbs 12 oz at his check up at the end of May. We upped the walks and cut the treats - his daily diet has not changed at all. We've also used the Covid shutdown to build on to our agility equipment in the yard so on top of the hoops, multiple jumps, tunnel and 12 weave poles, he know has a see-saw and a-frame; dog walk is on the agenda. He gets run through the course a few times almost daily when he gets his frisbee sessions. His biggest problem was training treats but I've been doing the homemade chicken liver treats instead and they are what, something like .5 calories vs the 2.5 calories of his past training treat. He still gets his bully sticks and dehydrated chicken breast and chicken chewies. Hmmmm, I have to move all that equipment every time I mow - I think I am needing to cut down on my treats as I sure haven't lost anything!
Wow, Sandy... you put me to shame! Brodie is one lucky Sheltie! Let’s not get into our weight ;):ROFLMAO::(

According to the Sheltie Forum chart those dogs are overweight.

Reminds me to go in and add a few more Australian Shelties. And I noticed the chart in KG doesn't include the smaller dogs, better change that as in Australia there's as many undersize than oversized.
You mean all the Shelties responding to this thread are overweight? :(
I know mine are...
Thanks for the comprehensive chart!

Also depends on the 'bone' and length.

Tully is so very underweight atm at the same weight as Della, who is 1" taller. But I know for sure Tully is heavy boned because of what the ortho vet said when she had her hip replacement. That said, Tully could be an anomoly.

My chart includes dogs of all sizes - overweight and (if it can happen to a sheltie) underweight.

So Monty didn't feel left out as he was not included in the first chart, we have employed the top scientific minds to create a chart for him. As you can see he is holding steady at the ideal weight of 10.9 for a 4yr old tiny Sheltie called Monty.......

I let Fillion get up to 27 lbs. He was Fatty McFatFat! When I went to get Benson, I took Fil along and got the disapproving look from the breeder. So after a year of concerted, weighing every ounce of food effort, he is down to 21 lbs last weigh in. He has a nice waist and the fat on his ribs is almost gone. I don't know how to properly measure him, I think he's under 15--judging by comparison next to the others. Koko held steady at 25 lbs, is at the upper end of the height allowance, so at least 15.5. He feels a tad overweight, but age and arthritis keep him sedentary. Benson is the tallest (probably 16)and intact and I've managed to get 2 lbs on him. 18 lbs last weigh in. Breeder wants him at 20 tops. That shouldn't be a problem! I can still feel his hip bones...

Gavin is about 19". when he was undergoing radiation he hit 29 and was wayy too skinny poor guy. He normally was somewhere around 32-34 lbs. Now he is around 35-36lbs, and while I would love to have him loose a lb or two, he isn't tubby. It is hard to feel his ribs because he has so many lipomas. as long as he doesn't gt any bigger I am happy with his weight.
