Shelties are like potato chips, one is never enough

Congrats on your new girl, she looks very sweet. I love happy endings, and I can't wait to see pictures of her with your family.

Suzie,

I got a beautiful rescue little girl in April. My bed is a bit tall and since I already had 2 other small fur babies (and Emma)....I already had a ramp next to my bed. It has been there for 10 yrs!! Noelle (my rescue) took right to the ramp; she always uses it and has not jumped off the bed.

I made the ramp myself. Just a simple 12" wide board and can make to any length needed. I bought indoor/outdoor carpet at Lowe's and covered it myself. I change it out every yr or couple of yrs. I would want the new baby in the bed with me too!! Try that, see if she would take to it.

I also have one that goes up to my couch in my office for the littler babies (Chihuahua's). Emma...well she has no interest to sleep in the bed; always preferred next to me on the floor in her bed. It took ME having to get use to that as I would prefer her in the bed with all of us!! LOL

Congrats on your new sweetheart!!!

Oh, just wanted to add: I have a chest next to my bed on the opposite side from where I sleep and I put a pillow on it and lay the ramp on it for support and snugged up next to bed. It is sturdy.

Suzie, I love your enthusiasm for Dottie (Lottie?)'s arrival. It will be so great to hear all about her transition to your loving home. I'm sorry your daughter won't be able to meet her right away. Are you still getting daily updates from the foster Mom?

Please make sure your friends who are transporting have her in a harness or some martingale or slip collar that she can't get out of if she were to get scared and pull back. My big girl Asta once pulled right out of her collar when a kid on a skateboard came at us.... scared me to death as we were right next to the street.

Anyway, hope the heat wave breaks up before they hit the road!

The rescue sends them home with a martingale collar. Janice (foster mom) assured me that she went over everything with Jeff & Sara (my friends bringing her home). I have the utmost confidence in them. They are definitely dog people, so I'm not worried.

Oh, I probably will be when I know they're on route. I just want her home!

I got an email from her foster mom this evening. She wrote, "I can't believe her travel day is coming up next weekend! I've told her about you and her new siblings, and not to be sad because her Mom already loves her very much." And I do feel as though I already love her. I honestly think we were supposed to find one another. I told my daughter I felt the same way when I saw Cooper and that worked out great, so I think Lottie will fit in perfectly!

I sent her a blanket that I made for her. I had both the dogs sleep on it and used it as a throw myself. So all of our scents are on it. Here she is with it!

How about 3!!!

The moment I saw her I knew I had to have her.

I felt exactly the same way about Lucy and we adopted her a few days later. I love hearing good stories about rescues, she looks so cute with her blanket! Congrats on #3, we are a 3 sheltie house too.

What a thoughtful and wonderful idea that is. This way when she gets to your home, she will recognize the scents!

That was the idea. I'd like her to have something that seems somehow familiar to her when she arrives.

I'm so afraid she will be sad after leaving her foster home. She loves her foster mom and her little puppy brother. I really want her to feel comfortable. Both Meggie and Cooper adjusted to my home and to each other easily. I'm hoping that it will work that way for sweet Lottie as well.

Such a heartwarming story.........I'm so excited for you! I have a brood bitch that I rescued from a puppy mill also. We bought a puppy from them, (I was unaware, they had her at a flea market), and a year later my husband saw them again and was telling them how much I LOVED my sheltie and they offered to give him her mother-they didn't want her anymore because they're stud dog died. Since I had already told my husband I wanted another one, he brought her home to me!!!! She's the best little girl!!!!
