Sick little girl

I am so sorry to hear that you have lost Scout. It doesn't seem fair indeed to have lost her so young. We're all pulling for you now. God's peace.

Penny I am so sorry to hear that Scout has gone. I want to tell you this story so that you will know she is still with you.
Last year on August 28th I lost my beautiful mare Kassy. She had been with me for over 22 years and it was a sudden and violent passing. I was, like you, totally devasted. I couldn't stop the tears, I couldn't go to the barn and had to rely on my husband, daughter and the kid across the street to do the chores because I couldn't face her empty stall. I happen to be talking to a friend in Belgians who told me that Kassy was still with me. She told me to go down to the barn, stand in her stall and bring her sweet face to my mind. Once I pictured her I was to then picture myself giving her a carrot - her favourite treat. So, I followed Sandy's advice and went down to the barn. Sobbing, I stood in her stall and I let myself picture Kass, imagined her warm breath on my face and offered her the spiritual carrot in her bowl as I had done thousands of times over the years. Now, you have to know that Kassy was a sloppy eater. She always left a bunch of foamy saliva in her bowl after her grain or a treat where the other two's bowls would always be as dry as a bone - never wet. I thought Sandy was wrong, I didn't feel her with me. I just felt the loss.
That evening, I brought Ariel and Thomas in, gave them their grain and did the normal things I do before collecting their bowls. I then went in and got Thomas's bowl, dry as normal but when I went for Ariel's it looked exactly like Kassy's would be, full of goober. She had never done that before and never has since. I know Kassy was letting me know that Sandy was right and that she is beside me still. I will always miss being able to hug her warm body, see the delight in her eye when I tickled her throatlatch but I still share all my cares with her because I know she still listens so intently. We had a strong and trusting bond. I wear a locket with my favourite picture of her and I together as well as a bit of her rich black forelock.
Scout will always be with you. I know that for sure and want you to feel the peace of knowing that it is true. One day you will start to look at picture of her and be able to smile again. May God give you the strength to help you past your sadness.

Penny, I am so very sorry to hear of Scout's passing.

My heart and prayers go out to you.

ps Your little Scout is in heaven now.

I am so sorry about your Scout. I agree that she is still with you. My first Sheltie, who was with me from the time I was 7 until 23 (3 decades ago) still visits about once a year in dreams so vivid that when I wake up it takes me several minutes to realize he's not in this realm anymore. Thay don't go very far away.

Thank you all for your beautiful personal stories and condolences. I will be honest, I am blaming myself for not getting her to the ER clinic earlier instead of back and forth with the regular vet. I keep thinking the outcome might have been different.

But I know that life is full of "what ifs" so I will try my best to just picture the wonderful things I remember about her. She was the funniest little dog ever :) and never ceased to make me smile or laugh out loud.

Her is a good photo of her giving someone the business.

What a beauty!

Please don't blame yourself--you did all the right things, and everything anyone could for her.

I'm so sorry for your loss Penny. Try not to blame yourself, you did everything that you could for her. This is just one of those sad things that happen.

Thoughts and prayers to you and your family.
