Surgery on Thursday

Sending best wishes for Shelby! I agree...they do heal remarkably fast when they have teeth pulled, hopefully just as fast having guns cut...I can't imagine, sounds so painful! Hopefully they send you home with some pain medication for her.

just talked to a gal at the barn where I ride - her Great Dane had to have this surgery, he's middle aged and doing fine. She didn't say pain was a big issue. Hopefully Shelby won't have much of an issue.

Thanks everyone.

Shelby had her surgery today and everything went well. The vet had to pull her 6 bottom front teeth. She will be on a soft diet for 10 days and no toys for 3 days.

We brought her home around 5 today. She is still very sleepy, vet said she could be lethargic for a few days. I can feed her a little in a few minutes so that should make her happy.

I know we will probably need to do this routinely as long as Shelby is healthy enough, but hopefully she will not need to have more teeth pulled.

I am so glad your wee lass is home with you tonight and on the road to healing. I am sure it is a huge relief to have the surgery over with. With soft food and some rest for the next dew days Shelby will do just fine. Gentle hugs to your little gal.

Really relieved to hear it all went well. I'm kind of dreading Meadow's spay in January even though she is so young and healthy. I recall my vet saying mouths heal pretty quickly so hopefully Shelby be back to normal very soon.

So glad Shelby is safe and home now! I understand the the worry when they are away from you! I am sure she will feel spoiled with the soft food and loads of cuddles and kisses to aid in her recovery! Please give her a few soft pats from us!
She might have soft stools for a day or so from the anesthesia and stress. Pumpkin and white potatoes or rice can help along with a bit too f boiled chicken!

Thanks for the recommendation. The vet did say she had a loose stool and she felt it was from the stress, so she has her taking probiotics. So far she has not had a bowel movement since we have been home.

She is doing much better today. She has been eating (and begging for food) so that is back to normal. She is still a little lethargic but the vet said she will be for a few days, plus I’m sure the pain med makes her tired. But she is happy, opening her mouth fully, she even wanted to play (no toys until Monday). So we just played chase for a little.

The bleeding has stopped, so my husband cleaned the carpet. I am sure by the end of the weekend she will be back 100%.
