Teenage Phase

Dusty turns 8 (months ) tomorrow.
In the past few days she has consistently "forgotten" to stay on her mat while I fill her food dish, has started jumping up at me when I walk past her, and has decided that while it is fun to ring the bell to go out every 20 minutes (more or less) I should understand and learn that 3 liitle whimpers means she really needs to go out
And since she is now bigger than the cats and they don't want to puppy play with her, it is ok if she uses her teeth ( gently) when playing with me.
 
Like many people here suggested, extra exercise during the teenage phase really calms them down. Bailey played all new years eve with my friend's puppy. The next day, Bailey slept almost all day. She was still exhausted from the night before. Hmmmm maybe I need a new puppy for Bailey...I kid. I kid.
 
I'm starting to get a little overwhelmed. There have a been a few times where I even thought "what did I get myself into to?" Bailey is turning into a real terror. Constantly barking, jumping and stealing shoes, tissues, etc. She seems to have no attention span. She's like a 2 year old with ADHD.

I do my best to ignore her bad behavior and praise her when she is good and calm. When I come home from work, she jumps and barks. I don't pet her until she calms down, but every night I come home, she still barks and jumps. I'm at work all day, so I only get to spend a few hours with her. My parents don't seem to listen to me. I know they are feeding into her bad behavior. They chase her and scream when she is doing something bad. I've explained what to do a billion times and all they say is "i've never seen a dog like this." "Our dogs were never this bad."

She's been ringing the bell every 30 minutes like a puppy again. I noticed she peed on the carpet last night too. I don't know if this is teenage behavior or she has a UTI. She was in her crate yesterday for 6 hours with no accidents. I'm gonna bring in a urine sample tomorrow just in case.

How did you all get through the teenage phase???

She is definitely going through a teenage phase. Chloe didn't go through hers until she was a year, and it last for about two months. She drove me crazy! She even pooped on my daughter's bed!

Does she do most of her "bad things" during the day when you are away. Maybe your parents need to giver her longer "time outs" while they are home. This way she does not have the chance to cause trouble. Maybe they can keep her crated, and only give her run of the house when they are actively playing with her.
 
Just spoke to my dad to see how Bailey was today. He said he's had her out of her crate since 11 o'clock. He has had no problems with her. She only asked to go outside twice within the 5 hours she's been out. She played a little and is now sleeping under the kitchen table.

So why is she so bad for me??? I was with her for 2 & half hours last night and she asked to go out 4 times and peed on the carpet when I wasn't looking... She also barks and screams at me and goes crazy. Maybe she's just excited that I home? Or is she bad, so she can get treats when she's good? Maybe she knows she has to bad to be good to get treats? Does that make sense?
