The Adventures of the Little Red Caboose

Thanks, I was REALLY worried but I think he didn't make the leap from what we did as a pup on the counter facing me to on leash outside beside me. When I backed up and re-did the counter, then the floor, then outside, then beside me, then on lead he made the generalization and got it.

I was working with him but then I got sick and then it got really hot so we had to start over and go back to a "restore point". Now, I really think we are on the way.

Plus, taking rally or obedience off our plate really is a good thing. Scent and tracking puts a different focus for us and fits more with my comfort zone. I don't want to compete with the regimen of rally or obedience where I can make mistakes in the signs and I stress myself out way too much; I want to do real world skills that maybe can help people and I think that fits more with my life philosophy. We shall see. I need to go through scent classes and then jump off from there either into some nosework competitions or not.

He's got a good heart and now that brain and heart are starting to mesh he's a really great little dog.

Cubby practicing his "Sit/Down Stay For Camera" command. The whole reason we do dog school is for picture posing! LOVE it. Finally, some decent shots.

Nearly 22 weeks old.

I was just thinking how much he is looking like Aunt Emmy. His shading is filling out. We are working on the poky ear and hopefully they both will stay down. He is looking VERY mature and he is almost as big as Melli but weighs half. The dark stripe is there but lighter. And he has learned sit and down and stay.

He's now starting to be fun.

Haven't checking in, our world has been CRAZY this week. Last Friday the dogs, my husband, my mother, and myself decided I will give notice and quit my work from home job. I have gotten so lost in working 15/6 that everything and everyone suffers. My husband wants to get back into RC jets and that means travel (in our 19 foot RV with 3 dogs). That will be starting in November we hope and sometimes Melli can stay with my mom for some quiet time.

Cubby still gets SO carsick. My luck - Mel AND Cubby both! I am giving mecclizine which helps a little. Benadryl did nothing. Guess he gets to wear the rain slicker now too when we travel. Good thing I have TWO. The first 20 minutes of our trip out of here are pretty brutal. I try to take it easy but that doesn't much matter. He (or Melli) never get sick on the way home which baffles me.

Cubby is doing well at school. This weekend my mom bought us a new TV (it's name is Hal and it is very smart) so I took Cubby along to the store. While she was handling all the paying and such we went off and practiced heeling. He did great.

We have ONE baby tooth left and all the big ones are coming in. The ears are tipped really nicely and I am doing the furniture pads maybe half days til the teeth are done.

We will be 6 months next Thurs. I will take some pix that day. I am SO happy that little puppyness is over. I don't miss a thing about the early days. I only look forward to our activities for the future.

Cubby at 23 1/2 weeks. This will be a BIG week for Cubby with class on Wed. and hopefully getting to meet Dawn & Judy and Lacey & Dawn's pups. He has a costume too! How fun is that? A fun week to be 6 months old.

Here is Cubby on the tracks again.
