The Doodle craze

Here's one for you. Yesterday I was having Mohs surgery on my face to remove some skin cancer. The surgeon, knowing I'm a dog person, was regaling me with stories about his family's new Bernadoodle while he was cutting. A cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a MINI poodle!
Since he was holding the knife, I refrained from saying "So you have a mutt..." :gaah
I don't get this craze at all! Why not just get a miniature poodle!! They're in my future.

lol ok to continue this weirdness. Someone in a Facebook group was just talking about having a shepherd/pyrenees pup and someone else said they also have a dog same mix 2 years old. As we used to own 2 pyres I was curious...go Google that mix...sorry not an attractive dog lol. I was wondering about the personality as pyrs are so laid back. I hope this isn’t a thing, maybe an accidental breed lol

:banghead: Holy ..... Gloria - I was stunned by this video, which blithely makes big, definitive statements on the character of each of these mixes. Even saying, "If the dog is mostly poodle then X, if more Dachshund, then Y. " They are HALF AND HALF, people! No guarantees of their character/coat/hypoallergenic status. The one that really got me was the St. Bernard. It wouldn't be so mind boggling if I didn't know they are getting thousands of dollars for these dogs. In my experience as a vet tech St. Bernards can be very unpredictable in temperament.

I'm not saying they aren't lovely dogs individually but the crazy hype..... just wow.

No guarantees of their character/coat/hypoallergenic status.

Exactly!!!! It's a mutt/mix - MIGHT be 'hypoallergenic', MIGHT be low shedding... or you just MIGHT end up with the WORST attributes of each breed.... example... poodle/dachshund.... hyper, massive shedding of short wirey fur that sticks into EVERYTHING (our doxie sheds FAR more than Brodie and it's into everything, Brodie's sits on top of stuff - dust bunny shedding.) Stubborn, impossible to train, years and years and years of potty training that the dog just ignores at will (too tied, too lazy, it's too hot, too cold, too dry, too wet). A terror at dumpster diving, can easily access your table adn dinner and abscond with it while you innocently sneeze into a napkin - and feels NO remorse doing so. Might be nice, might snap your hand off - just because he's 'in the mood to'.

PS - I do love our doxie - just NOT a breed that just anyone should own. I feel, after having two, they need a strong, experienced owner, similar to warnings you see on shepherds - they aren't just cute 'hot dogs' - they are a handfull!

not sure who wrote the dialog but wow......................
a yorkipoo is a mix between a Pekingese and a Poodle- don't think so....
schnoodles- award winning show dogs????

oh and there's a part 2 of doodle mixes..............
