The Doodle craze

100% agree. And not training a tiny or small dog can make them totally obnoxious to be around as well as it not being remotely fair to the little dog. So many tiny dogs are aggressive out of fear...the world around them is huge and they have been given no guidelines/boundaries as to how to respond and have no confidence that they are safe so they turn to aggression in hopes of keeping anything or anyone they don't know and feel comfortable with at bay. It doesn't matter whether a dog weights 5 pounds or 190 pounds...the basic training should be the same.

Couldn't agree more - purse dogs are just sad. They have 4 good feet, people! A dog is a dog no matter the size. I love the few people we see actually jogging with their small terrier or Chihuahua. Those little legs can fly, and the dogs always look happy.

Sharon, the only time I got a smile out of seeing a tiny dog being carried by his owner, rather than allowed to walk like a normal dog, was one day when I was at the vet's and a HUGE guy in Hell's Angel garb came into the waiting room and riding in his black leather jacket's front pocket was a teeny weeny Chi. Here was a tough looking dude that you would expect would own a massive fighting breed dog and instead his pal couldn't have weighed more than 3 pounds! And it was a friendly Chi...guess he figured no one would dare mess with him when he had a 250+ pound Hell's Angel for his guardian.

When I first had Piper and was taking him to this obedience place in the country with this trainer who was a bit of a nut but knew her stuff. I’d done the puppy class and this was the start of level 1 obedience. Piper would’ve been around 5 months old and he was small. Most of her classes were outside (summer) so we were all waiting for her last class to leave and they were all big dogs...Shepherds and Labs. I picked up Piper and was holding him when the trainer came walking by. She saw me holding him and said ‘Put your dog DOWN!!!’
I guarantee no one picked up their dog around her but I really got the message!

The dogs I fear the most when out on walks is off leash are the smaller breeds. Most have a very aggressive posture, so you never know how willing they are engage you. Thank goodness that Zulu is so mellow fellow. He almost never shows his cards, just stays cool.

I got mauled by the cutest chi at an agility show this weekend- he jumped on me when I was picking up his leash and kissed me……..

The first few words had me scared.... :ROFLMAO: I used to not like Chi's (from my work as a vet tech) but when I started volunteering at the shelter I changed my mind. Met quite a few really nice ones. There was one I loved, she looked like a mini Border Collie, black and white, with bright blue eyes. I called her my Mexican jumping bean because when she saw me it was BOING! BOING! straight up. She was a hoot. Even my hubby changed his mind when he met a few of my favorites.

That's how I used to view small dogs...often nasty little brats...until I got my first tiny Yorkie, Emmie, who was 15 years old with terminal medical issues and the shelter knew she wouldn't get adopted...so they called me asking if I would take her for whatever time she had left. She totally changed my attitude to small dogs and since Emmie I have always had at least one or two tiny ones and every one of them has been a joy.
