Throwing up

He's doing really well this morning!

Just as a quick aside--the vet was apologizing yesterday because she was on vacation today and she felt bad that another vet was going to have to take over the case. She assured us that he had been in surgery with her, and that she had kept him updated...but anyways...our vet called this morning and said "I was on my way out of town and I just had to check in on Bentley before I left". I thought that was great.

Anyways, she said that Bentley is up and alert. His incision looks good, and yesterday they were able to give him oral meds for the ulceration. Also, they offered him some food this morning and he gobbled it up, which is a great sign. His vitals are good, and they are going to re-check his CBC.

All in all, if he continues doing well he will get to come home tonight!!!! :biggrin2:

thats great news!! Sounds like he is on the mend! And out of this bad situation sounds like you found a great vet so that is great news!!!

Wonderful news! Fingers crossed that Bentley can come home tonight!

Does he have to take ulcer medicine for the rest of his life or is he only at risk for ulcers until his stomach heals?

I think only until his stomach heals. I haven't gotten the "take home instructions" yet, but I think that his stomach should heal up and be okay.

Though I have heard that dogs that have had blockages are at a higher risk to have another for two reasons.
1--They've proven that they'll eat anything (ugh)
2--Sometimes they get scar tissue where the incisions heal and it makes it harder for things to pass.
Whether or not that's true, I don't know. But I do know that Bentley will be staying in his crate whenever we are not at our house (we do a good job picking EVERYTHING up)

Great news, so glad Bentley is doing well! How nice for the vet to check in before leaving, that must have made you feel so much better.

So happy to hear Bentley is doing so much better. Made my day reading your post. Glad he was able to eat and that he wanted to eat!!! Speedy recovery to you, Bentley.

Sounds like a wonderful vet you have found. That's great.

Great news that he may come home tonight, Lexi will be so happy to see him- wish I could see her face when he gets home. Sounds like he is really doing good.

Good to know... I was wondering this, too. So glad to know that he came through ok and will be home soon!

Thanks for the update, and a very uplifting update as well!

I am so happy that Bentley is feeling better and is doing well.
