Tully's hip replacement

Oh that reaction from Tully must hurt... it's when you really want to be able to TALK to them and have them talk back so you can explain!

Glad she is doing so well though and hair will grow back faster than you think. The end result will be so worth it. :hugs

She's a bit more alert today, she's shifted her annoyance onto Deska, and I must say Mr D is being very well behaved. She is shivering a lot - I think it might be a combination of cold and pain, so she's in an x-pen next to the window, have to make sure she doesn't get burnt though. When I can get her to stand I'm going to shorten her other side because it looks silly the little bit of fur left.

One interesting thing about the awful haircut is seeing her shape. I thought Shelties were shaped like JRTs underneath, because when I've seen a shaved or heavily clipped sheltie that's what they looked like - but maybe that's just because those shelties were chubby. Tully's got more of a greyhound shape, muscly leg, small waist and big lungs.

Tired, tired. Looking after an invalid dog is exhausting. We ended up at the vet yesterday, she hadn't pooped for almost a week and the ortho vet was worried so she had an enema and did 6 poops, which has also freed up her bladder. she's also got oedema in her operated leg so I'm giving her hourly massages and the vet put her on extra antibiotics just in case. She's also got a lot of rashes - shave burn and rashes from the bandage on her wound and the fentanyl patch so I got some Neocort.

Tully's pretty good in the mornings after she's had her pain killer but the afternoon and evenings are difficult. I'm hoping yesterday was just a bad one because she had a visitor and then the vet trip so maybe it was too much. I've got her in a baby onesie to stop her licking and for warmth. I've also booked the cats into the cattery for an extra week - if she's grumpy with Deska she'd b worse with the cats (and the Burmese does tend to get annoying).

I'm sure it will be worth it in the end, but right now it's tough. She walked a little today when she peed so that's a good sign. Now it's time to take Deska out - Tully won't let me out of her sight so I'll take him to the oval and leave her in the car. Had a friend walk Deska yesterday and someone to baby sit Tully the next 2 days so I can walk Deska, just couldn't get anyone today. Then I think I'll catch up with some sleep.

Wow that must be a microdose of Fentanyl! They gave me a shot of that once and the room spun for a while when I sat up hours later and I am just a 'bit' bigger than Tully :o

Hope she can settle in a bit soon and get to healing. Oh and caa-ats are evil Sca says so you should have a Sheltie only house according to him.

You are an amazing doggie mommy :D
I know that some day Tully will look at you and tell you that she understands that you gave her surgery to make her feel better.
Our pups trust us so much....and all we can do is try to live up to that.

She's going nuts over her sutures now and ripped off the bandage so she's in the 'cloak' which is like an inverted cone.

I let her sit on the porch while I did some weeding - I think she appreciated the fresh air.
