Tully's hip replacement

Yey, she walked. I spent a couple of hours sitting with in the visiting room. She licked Deska but didnt noticed me until about half an hour before I left (when her meds wore off). U should see how much they shaved, she looks like a half plucked chicken. Will visit in the morn and find out when she comes home - there's bit of vonfusion but they put a gen patch on in prep for tomorrow. I'm too scared to pick her up, its worse than picking up someone else's newborn.

That's sooooooooooo good to hear !! She is a sheltie, she will do the work. You will be busy keeping up with the rehab, so get plenty of rest. :wink2:

I'm so glad the surgery is over and Tully is recovering! Sending good thoughts and prayers for the coming weeks as she rehabs. Pats to Tully!

Excellent! So happy to hear that she walked and is on that "recovery road".

Continuous prayers going out your way.

That's so good that she is up and walking!! They do shave a huge area...I remember when Rory had his hip done they literally shaved from his "waist" back...he looked so pathetic that I felt like crying the first time I saw him post surgery. But once healed he was such a happy camper...no more pain. Tully will feel like a new doggie once she is healed! :)

We're home. She's very unhappy with me atm - won't look at me and actually turns her head away when I come near. She's also refusing to drink, which I think is because it hurts to pee. It makes it hard to give some of her meds though, the one I crush up and give in milk. I'll give her some tinned food tonight, at least she should get moisture from that, and hopefully she won't pick out her other tablets.

Here's a pic I took last night of her poor little leg. I must say it's more muscular than I thought. She has shavers rash on parts of her leg, which she keeps trying to chew. And she's been shivering from the cold - I guess it's quite a shock not to be covered with fur.

Caro, little Tully looks just like my Rory did when his hip was done...brings back so many memories. Give her a gentle pat from me.

Shaver rash is nasty...do you have a topical like Zymox you can use on it? Zymox is a hydrocoritisone spray to help healing and it has just enough of a nasty taste that typically the doggies don't want to lick or chew the area it has been sprayed on so they don't make the skin issue even worse.

My Pixie is like Tully in that when I first get her home for the hospital...and she has had to have 3 major surgeries in her 8 years...she initially turns away and refuses to even look at me...sometimes for several hours after we get home. They can't understand why we left them to be "hurt", but Tully will come around and be thankful just to be home and have your love.
