Tully's hip replacement

Maybe if you place the crate on a folded blanket to help absorb bumps and tie it down it will help. Fingers are crossed for her that all is well and that she recovers quickly. You sure have had your hands full with ortho surgeries. Stay strong.

Tully came out of surgery okay. The vet is happy with the angle, although some concrete leaked through to the back of the bone but they don't think that will have any impact - will just show up on xrays.

The scary thing is she has some paralysis atm. Could be fear of walking or could be from the epidural. They had to express her bladder and tried to 'towel' walk her, they will try again overnight to get her to walk. I'm hoping it's only a temporary thing, the suggested I call again in the morning before I head off to Sydney to see how she fared overnight and to make a visit time. Guess it's another sleepless night.

Glad Tully came out of the surgery okay.

I had an epidural, when I had my daughter, c-section 26 years ago. I do not remember exactly for how long, but remember being mad as heck that I could not feel anything in my legs after I came to from surgery. The nurses told me this was "normal" and the feeling would come back soon.....and it did! This happens sometimes. My legs were fine after awhile, like they said.

My guess, this is what happened to your Tully.

Tully is in my prayers for that "total" recovery!!!!

Please continue to update when you can. Thanks.

Caro, I am glad the surgery is over and now Tully can work on healing. Years ago when our little Rory had hip surgery he wouldn't move or even try to stand for over a week...I think the pain really scared him...so I wouldn't be too worried right now about Tully's initial "paralysis".

Prayers for a safe ride home when you pick her up. She will be so thankful to be home!

I don't know what arrangements you have made for Tully when she gets home, but my Rory was very down emotionally post surgery and the nights when there was nothing going on to divert his attention seemed especially bad for him. So I moved the double bed mattress from our guest room onto the floor, put up one of those folding playpens around the outside of the mattress so he couldn't slip off the edge and slept with him on the mattress for the next 3 weeks. I didn't get much sleep, but my being right beside him where I could rest a hand on him at all times seemed to bring him comfort and was well worth the lost sleep.

So relieved to hear that Tully is out of surgery and doing well. Please keep us updated. I am sending a zillion sheltie prayers your way. Keep some of them for yourself Caro.

Hugs,

Kate

Thanks for the advice, I hadn't thought of that and it is very likely. Might have to camp out on the couch for a while - lucky I have a big couch. I'll spend tonight planning some things to keep Tully interested when she gets home.

Off to Sydney now to see my girl.
