Tully's not doing well

Ha, I have to admit - when you talk about sub-Q fluids I never know what you're talking about! Another one for the language barrier. A drip (besides also being what you call a daggy, stupid person), is IV fluids. Is that the same thing you are talking about?
I don’t think they’re the same, but when someone says ‘drip’ I assume they mean IV.
IV means intravenous (into the vein) and Sub Q means under the skin. So they’re both different methods of giving fluid, but I don’t know the medical reasons for doing one over the other.

I hope your sweet Tully gets better. I had my gallbladder out and before that I can tell you that it was most painful after eating and especially after eating anything fatty. Just trying to deal with the pain was exhausting. If she is doing shallow breathing, it might be part of her pain control.

Ha, I have to admit - when you talk about sub-Q fluids I never know what you're talking about! Another one for the language barrier. A drip (besides also being what you call a daggy, stupid person), is IV fluids. Is that the same thing you are talking about? She was getting saline plus antibiotics throught the IV. They were worried that not having the constant flushing of the fluids through the organs may cause the gallbladder to fester again, and also to support her pancreas. Anyway, she has been drinking a huge amount and is peeing more than the puppy. But I guess thats good ?
Here is the information on the one I used for Logan....
Electrolyte Solutions work to restore proper balance of electrolytes (sodium, chloride, potassium, etc.) in the body, so that important actions like muscle contraction and nerve activity can take place. They also supply additional water that the body needs when oral fluid intake is not sufficient.

  • Restores fluid balance in cases of dehydration, shock, or as the result of certain diseases
  • Can be given to animals intravenously or subcutaneously
  • Multiple manufacturers so widely available and fairly economical

OK, I see now, it's for the electrolytes. I use them often myself. Not sure about giving anything extra because of the gallbladder - I really do need to do some research into a diet to support her gallbladder. Deciding whether to put her back on the multivitamin since she ended up at the ER the first day I used it.

Tully was very sick again this morning. I got some Cerenia into her and she perked up enough to tell the puppy off. She is drinking and toileting far too much though - and I really have to force her to go outside because she doesn't want to leave the house. I get the feeling she doesn't want to toilet around Della and the puppy (maybe she's disgusted by Della's poo eating too). Sometimes I let her toilet in the front yard because there's not so many steps, but then she goes on a wander.

I'm still on the fence about what to do. I know she'll be happier at home and will sleep more. But is she better on a drip and getting the antibiotics IV?

Today I had physio then needed to pick up my shopping order and panicked the whole time!
