hmm, I see possibility fitting a soft crate at the leg space of front seat...
as for carrying supplies bag I have got one from local Ikea for $10, it has color matching collar and leash, 2 dishes and a blanket. Works real well as it is spacy.

There will be times when you need to travel with the two dogs, not just for this, so it might be nice to start practicing.

Good point. This next coming week I am only going to bring Smudge. Then the next week I will look into buying a soft crate and maybe some travel gear. I actually have a seatbelt attachment that can go with a harness. I will see what I can find.

If I can find a soft crate I can probably go a bigger size, too. I am going to look at PetEdge and see what I can find.

those bags are really nice, but I'd recommend a backpack- that way your arms are still free for everything else. I have one of the folding chairs in a bag- pretty much is always in my car(suv).

My Wal-Mart doesn't sell the soft crates, BUT Brenda, the lady with the Aussies, suggested that I look in Ross, Big Lots, and some of the other discount stores in town (well...I say town, but it is her town not mine. ). She said they often have store brand or cheaper brand soft crates and dog supplies for a lot cheaper than places like PetSmart. So I am going to try that.

I have talked my Mom into going to the park with me this Wednesday. Maybe she will like what we are doing and get hooked. Then I could have an extra set of hands.

Anyway, I told my mom if she would come with us I would let her pick which dog I would bring. She said she wanted to bring Fluffy. So Smudge gets left behind for another week. Hopefully by the next week I will have time to have found something that will work for my truck. I was really wanting Jennifer to be there when Fluffy was, so I am ok with leaving Smudge behind another week. She can critque my horrible ear job and tell me how I am doing on whisker trimming and such. Plus I want more one on one time with Fluffy so I can get her leash trained. Getting her leash trained (in other words learning to walk on the leash) is my number one goal right now. I have been putting on her leash and letting her walk around the house for small amounts of time. That way she can get used to it. Of course I am always there when she has the leash on, because I don't want her to get caught on something. It wouldn't be good to walk away and five minutes later find Fluffy wrapped around the kitchen table.

This is kind of related, and kind of not. This is more so for Smudge than Fluffy.

Does anybody know where I might find a really, really, long leash to tie to my waist to use for home training for Smudge? Do you think maybe after we use it for a while at home that it might be useful in helping him overcome his skittishness if we use it at other places, like down the road my grandmother lives down?

Also, how do you tie these types of leashes to your waist in a way that it will not come undone?

I am about to go groom Fluffy for the park. She's been in her crate drying for a while now. I finished trimming her whiskers and cutting out a mat in her fur (gross!). Now I am just going to do a touch up on her whiskers to get some of the ones I missed, give her a good brushing, spray her with some Magic Touch, and fluff Fluff up with some Plush Puppy Puffy Dog!


Fluffy is still in the process of learning sit. She is getting better but still has not caught on. Smudge LOVES the new 15 foot leash. We went exploring the yard earlier today. He sniffed the riding lawnmower, tucked his tail between his legs, and walked away. I think it would be pretty honking funny to take a picture of Fluffy sitting donw in it! We might try that before we leave in a little bit!

My mom is going with me this week. I am trying to talk my friend Monica into going with us one week. I don't think she will though. She has a weiner dog named Jake (she also has one named Molly), and I think Monica needs to be social with her weiner.

Well, we are back. Jennifer and Terry taught me an excellent trick about how to get Fluffy to do a sit. You hold the treat right above her nose, and say sit. She did it the first time every time. Terry also showed me how to teach down in a better way than I learned it in obedience class. In obedience class you held the treat in your hand and guided the treat between the dog's legs. It never worked for me, because Smudge would always back up and I never got anything accomplished. Terry took the treat, and instead of pushing it between the dogs legs to get them to do a down he guided the treat in front of the dog. Much better, and the dog doesn't back up.

I'm calling this one a success, too. Fluffy got to meet Loretta the black and tan coon hound and Shaine the sable sheltie. Fluffy seemed to really love Loretta! I thought she wouldn't like her because she was so big and a big clumsy, but Fluffy kept following her around. So I guess add Aussies and black and tans to the list of dogs Fluffy likes.

I will have the picture of Fluffy on the riding lawnmower up in a few days. For now, maybe this picture will do. We were at the park waiting, and I decided to bring Fluffy into the front seat. So I took her out of her travel kennel and sat her in my lap. My mom took her flower lei off of her rear view mirror and put it around Fluffy.
