We made the hard decision...

The decision you have made is a gift to your beloved girl, Sadie. You are allowing her to be released from the aches and pains that age has caused as well as the diminished quality of her life and you are freeing her to go to a peaceful place. We, the human families, left behind will forever hold a place in our hearts for the adored companions we have lost. Taking the time to mourn for the loss of your little girl is as important as it is for any other dear family member or friend. If the members of this Forum can help you in any way, we'll all be here for you.

Nicely said. And so true....

With all my heart I believe that the love you share with Sadie doesn't end when she crosses the Great Threshold. God is too great, too loving. Sadie will wait patiently at the Bridge until you come. What a gift you gave her: to take on your heart's pain to remove her earthly pain.

Love is never wasted.

Thank you all for the kind words...We let Sadie go at 7:30 this evening. She was held until she took her finally breath and I know in my heart it was the right thing to do (even though the pain I'm feeling cannot be put into words). I learned that she had lost 15 pounds since her last checkup (which I knew she had lost some weight, but her hair obviously covered up the large amount of weight loss). The house seems awfully quiet, even with our other animals roaming around, I am missing the familiar sound of her moving around and walking back and forth to the kitchen. She helped with through so many times and gave me many happy memories. I will always love her and she will always have a special place in my heart....

perfectly said Jan !

You did the most bravest of acts to allow Sadie to be at peace . Give yourself time to grieve and may Our Good Lord Bless you. RIP Sadie, you are and always will be sadly missed .

A big hug to you. This has to be the most difficult thing we elect to do as guardians of our creatures. May we all be so fortunate to have our pups as long as you were blessed to have Sadie.

I know your pain and though it is never an easy thing to do you know you did the right thing for Sadie. My thoughts are with you.

Terry

My prayers are with you. I know how hard this can be. I didn't think I could make it through losing my last sheltie, but I did, and recently got a new sheltie boy. He will never be my FancyFace, but he will be a good sheltie, and that's quite a blessing. Sadie will have lots of sheltie friends at Rainbow Bridge, and will be waiting for you when it's time to go to a better place. {{{hugs}}}

My heart goes out to you

This poem touched my heart and gave me comfort when I was suffering the pain you are now. I think a loving God would let us know the things again that we truly loved in this life.

I STOOD BY YOUR BED LAST NIGHT

I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying,
You found it hard to sleep.

I whined to you so softly
As you brushed away a tear,
"It's me, I haven't left you -
I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."

I was close to you at breakfast,
I watched you pour the tea.
You were thinking of the many times
Your hands reached down to me.
I was with you at the shops today,
Your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels,
I wished I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today,
You tend it with such care.
I want to reassure you that I am not lying there.
I walked with you towards the house
As you fumbled for your keys.
I gently put my paw on you,
I smiled and said, "It's me."

You looked so very tired and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know
That I was standing there.
It's possible for me to be so near you every day.
To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."
You sat there very quietly, then smiled,

I think you knew....
In the stillness of that evening
I was very close to you.
The day is over now...
I smile and watch you yawning,
And say, "Goodnight, God Bless,
I'll see you in the morning."
And when the time is right for you
to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you
And we'll stand side by side.

I have so many things to show you,
there is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out....
Then come home to be with me.

jazzy that is a lovely poem!

I am so sorry about your Sadie, it is tough. Your sending Sadie off with sheltie wings to a peaceful place without pain, and where the Big Guy can take care of her. She is in great hands.

My heartfelt sympathy to you and your family, she sure had some good years and its a shame they can't grow old with us. They go too soon.

Prayers,

sable
