The problem with laser pointers is that many animals become so obsessed that they look for it all othe time. I saw a dog that was so crazy about it, that even outside he constantly searched for it. Shelties being a bit obsessive as it is...I am not sure I would do it very often. I did it once or twice as Aztec, and seeing him start to get a little crazy about it I quit.

really? I use it a little bit every day and she hasn't become obsessive. She has never looked for it besides 30 seconds after I stop.
I have to use it to get her to burn some energy until she gets her last set of shots. Then I can take her to the park and use the laser pen less often

That is sooo true - they are a bit of an obsessive breed, esp when it comes to having fun. I guess they figure if its worth doing might as well do it noisily and often!

I hear that you can keep Shelties happily occupied by setting up a tetherball pole and ball. The only drawback is that some Shelties will play with it to the point of dehydration, so you might have to limit the play periods. 
Mine keep asking their Uncle Larry for one, but so far he hasn't taken their hints.

Aztec is a little obessive compulsive beyond what is normal for a sheltie...so that might be part of it. He is incredibly routine oriented, and if he likes something he wants to do it everyday or all the time.

I picked one up tonight! And the boys are loving it! They are now tug-a-warring with each other. I've got other tug toys but Bacca always wins at them. For some reason, this one seems to level the playing field!
