What should we do?

Getting to this thread a day late...how is Ernie today? Hope he has no ill effects from the cooked bones. Hope you find a way to fill him up.
 
Just an update:

Earnhardt seems fine.Yesterday I did see a small amount of mucous,but I don't think anything to worry about.It was only the one time.His later poo's looked..well like poo.

We've added more veggies,and I did cook a bit of brown rice,just ot have a little something differant.Actually yesterday he was well behaved,no counter sniffing.

So maybe we'll get on the right track with him,soon with the appetite.
 
I'm glad he's acting better and there were no repercussions from the chicken bone.

My friend's shiba ate a chicken bone two months ago. He must have digested it. He never had any blockage or loose stool.

I am sorry that Earnie is giving you problems with the counter surfing.

I feel for you. I had a really hard time when I had to put my setter on a diet. He was starving all of the time. The only thing that ended up working for him was that I used a lot of pumpkin with is food. The pumpkin ended up working in regards to helping him with the hunger pangs.

Well I'm having a little problem getting pumpkin stocked back in the pantry.I thought I had a couple of extra cans,but must have used them for pies duing holidays. I did have one can open,and froze it.But that is dwindling.

I think I will get some sweet potatoe(baby food) and do that till I get some pumpkin.

I hate to not really know how much to give him,as a couple of weeks before he went for ex-rays on the hip,I was giving pumpkin to him,and I'm pretty sure he had some loose stools.His rear end looked irritated.

I did mention it to the vet that day,but by then it was gone (redness).I had the vet check his glands to be sure,maybe that was the problem.And they were empty.
So I have'nt givin him that much.Been sticking to frozen veggies for now.
 
Mine have no problems with a cup of mashed pumpkin. Deska has been known to knock off his, Tully's and my servings without a problem. Its mostly moisture anyway. I eat tons of the stuff and never get any irritation...

A dog with a blockage will vomit up subsequent meals because they can't pass the blockage and will appear constipated. As it sounds like Earnie has neither of these problems I think he is ok. You will know VERY quickly if a dog has a blockage.

I have had to play the 'wait and see' game more than once with Cadbury and the things he has consumed.

As for diet, fruit and veg is key to a rumbly stomach. Cadbury gets the hungry sicks, meaning he can not be allowed to get empty or he will vomit. He also takes to licking his paws when hungry and then brings up bile and fur. But being a lab I have to watch his weight like a hawk!

I keep him trim by bulking meals with frozen mixed veg (anything but onion or mushrooms) and he likes fruit as well. Bananas are favourite, but for low fat diets I can recommend watermelon. It fills them up but its all water so no calories.

Also mashing up a selection of fruit or veg and stuffing it in a kong for him will keep him busy as well.

Can also suggest rice krispies tossed on the floor. All air but takes ages to find and eat them all!

I was pretty good till I got to the rice krispies..lordie..I could see it now.Earnhardt blowing those across the floor trying to get them,then there would be Jasper & Trapp acting as little hoover vacs,sucking them up!

Thanks for the tips.He's doing well with frozen veggies.so far the only thing I found he kinda leaves for last is frozen beans,he eats them but not as quickly as the other.
He is fine,they are all out playing ring a round the rosy under the shop overhang. There a picnic table out there...the dirt is a flying! Dirty dogs tonite I can see~

But that is half the fun :wink2: Its priceless for entertainment. Best is when you throw them on the lawn and the dog is frantically trying to find them in the grass.

Better than TV!
