What strange things do your shelties bark at?

The freakiest thing Romeo barked at is... nothing. As in he would suddenly get up and bark aggressively at ONE spot and he'll be looking upwards at about the height of a person. It doesn't happen often (thankfully) but when it does I let him bark when this happens in hopes of chasing whatever it is away. I would usually sit very still and stare at Romeo and the spot he's barking at.

Pixie barks to incite the clan. When she wants one of them to get off the couch, she pretends to see something out the window and barks to roust them. She is waaaaay too smart. :eek2: Barkley barks at everything. And I do mean everything. :rolleyes2:

Checkers doesn't bark, she sings. She's selective though. She discovered her talent about a month ago when she heard the Jingle Bell Barking song on TV. Since then, she sings along with songs she likes. Last week Aretha Franklin was on TV singing Chain of Fools. She jumped up from a sound sleep, ran to the middle of the room, threw her head back and Whoo Whoo Wooed with the backup singers. Funny thing was she sounded a lot like Aretha. I wonder if I can get her a record deal....

Ha ha, Megan goes nuts when we fluff a trash bag as well, barks at any type of vacuuming, loves the hair dryer. What's really funny is she goes nuts when I get the tin foil out and tear a piece out!

Bailey barks at these things, too. Always, and loudly.

Other things Bailey barks at:
•other dogs, for real or on tv or on "sheltie tv" on the computer
•the bathroom door when I close it on her, and even when I get up and she knows I'm on the way to the bathroom
•the telephone--every time. She also barks when I'm about to end the conversation and hang up the phone.
•squirrels
•bicycles and kids, when they are cycling or walking past our living room window
•many times, as others have mentioned "just because".

Joey, on the other hand, rarely barks. Sometimes Bailey incites him to bark along with her, and he barks when Jim asks him if he wants to go out (like he's answering Jim with a "yes, yes") But mostly he's a (rare) quiet Sheltie.

They are as different as night and day!

Justice barks at the doorbell and when his auntie Rachel comes(he can't help it, he loves her):smile2: and when he plays dead that's it.

Diva barks when I get up, when I'm getting her supper, when chasing/playing with Ember.

Ember barks when I get up from the chair, feeding time, when we get to the training school, doorbell, when the washer goes into the spin cycle, and randomly at strange noises only she can hear.:rolleyes2:

That is so creepy. MY Aonghus does that too, but I usually figure he is seeing someone that I can't and try to just be okay with it.:uhoh:

The strangest thing mine bark at is....
Alan clipping nails or using a toothpick. Drives them nuts just that tiny little clip sound.

Corbinam and Take4roll10, I am right there with you with the trash bags and cleaning the floor. Wyatt goes especially nuts when I clean; apparently this chore is his favorite game!

OK - these are new in my world

I’ve recently figured out that Snap has two new barking routines. While they are amusing and annoying at the same time, they remind me of how smart our shelties are:

1) If I count out loud, Snap immediately starts to bark. It must be the inflection or cadence in my voice. I remember when we were starting agility run thrus that he got jazzed up during the countdown on the pause table. Today at the office I started counting some items on my computer screen out loud. The little devil immediately started barking !

2) When I am on the phone, he is well behaved up to the point when I am getting ready to get off. Whatever I am doing or saying before signing off is setting him off barking. Anyone else have this issue ? I guess I’ll have to talk on the phone with a spray bottle weapon in my hand………..
