Yet another Update...Blaze

Pancreas issues are very painful, make sure he gives u pain meds for Blaze. This could be very serious, but if you stay on low fat and well mnitored he will be fine. Ultra sounds are not cheap but with these two issues it's the best for best results. Sending good thoughts your way :)

Ru sure it's not Inflamed pancreas and sludge on the side of the gall bladder? Make sure, and it it's like I said, make sure the sludge in the gall bladder insn't mucoceles. My Max has this and I am learning about it more every day. No table scrapes low fat everything, including treats. Also Shelties thyroid runs on the high side of normal and shouldn't be ignored. It can all be handled together. Just hang in there, but remember vets treats all types of dogs and rarely specialize in any. So do your reading, and they are great here at the forum :)

I am so sorry to hear that Blaze has these problems. I imagine he is hurting, like Lynne says. I also imagine she is a great adviser for these conditions. I am sending my best wishes to you and sweet Blaze, and pray for his recovery. Give him lots of love and a kiss from me too.:hugs I did not know gallbladder problems were common in our sweet Shelties.

Thanks to you all!....

He had a bit of a rough night...upset tummy and vomited...not sure if it was the sedatives used during the ultrasound and the stress of the hospital or the new meds given last night;

He has had breakfast and dinner and so far so good today. Here's hoping for an uneventful night. He is seems to be relaxing comfortably...

Funny, the vet said the same thing about the breed...they are extremely hard to diagnose given that they are so stoic. I knew dogs in general hid pain well, but didn't realize how much more Shelties did. Gee I sure am learning a lot here!

The vet claims he may have to stay on a low fat diet for the rest of his days if the gall bladder and pancreas come under control. Will post questions on the diet thread in this regard.

Thanks for all your well wishes, prayers, support etc... will continue to keep you posted.

Blaze sends licks!!!

Low fat diet

Ru sure it's not Inflamed pancreas and sludge on the side of the gall bladder? Make sure, and it it's like I said, make sure the sludge in the gall bladder insn't mucoceles. I am quite certain she had said inflamed gall bladder and right side of pancreas has stuff; but I will confirm. His thyroid is running low. Once Blaze starts to stabilize I will start giving him green peas as a treat...he loves them!...

What food and treats do you feed Max?

I would like to feed a more natural food like Acana, and the vet's response was I could only feed him veterinary prescribed food. However if I could find an equivalent low fat I could.

I tried wellness core, because it is grain free and max has had issues with yeast! These test were off the chart so back to the vets low fat kibble. I do mix string beans, brocolli and a small amr of chicken in with kibble. I make sweet potatoes treats and now am trying frozen bananas from someone on the forum. Max has allergies so unfortunetly he is on cortisone, which makes him starving all the time. I do split his meals into three and around 9 or 10 pm he get veggies. I always try to keep food in his stomach so as to keep the bile down. You can give him a piece of carrot or even celery. Remember less is more, just frequent. Max is always hungry and I refuse to starve him but with the weather changing we started weaning him off cortisone and onto Zyrtec.
Just remember low fat or no fat, but frequent meals. I am retired so I am here but this is. Or forever, although max has so many other issues. Remember Shelties thyroid should be on the high side of average. Go to Chicago rescue and there is a paper you can print and give to your vet. I'm sorry for being LNG in the tooth but I know how hard it is and we don't want our fur babies to hurt :)
