He is 16 weeks today! He has lived with us for 6 weeks, which some days feels like much longer. The last time we had a puppy was almost 10 years ago when we adopted Ginger, our ShiPom. My husband keeps asking if it was this difficult when Ginger was a puppy and I tell him we were younger and Scout is a different breed. It really is getting easier every day. He always goes to the door and asks to go out and his sit and down are almost immediate even with distractions. His loose leash walking gets better every day and he is letting me sleep until almost 6 every morning. This morning I had to wake HIM up, lol. He is a sweet boy who wants to please. Ignoring his temper tantrums in the pen has really helped, so thanks to all who recommended I do that. This forum has helped me so much in the short time I have been here. Don’t know what I would have done without it!

Your Scout sounds like a truly wonderful boy and also a typical puppy. You will have so many happy years with him and look back on his puppy days and wonder where the time went.

Lol tell you husband they’re all difficult, we just forget! Piper was my first puppy (he’s 6 now) in 15 years and my first Sheltie puppy and wowzers big learning curve there for me so I totally understand! I remember taking him to his first vet appointment and the tech came into the room, took him from me and paraded him throughout the building...I was so mad! Here I was being so careful of not exposing him to other dogs and such and she was taking him all over! Of course I’ve learned lots since then (like saying no for one lol).
I also took him to the vet once because I didn’t think he was eating enough...thought he was too skinny because I could feel his ribs:ROFLMAO:...fortunately I have a very understanding vet lol.
Needless to say I’ve now had 3 puppies over the course of 6 years and I can honestly say puppy’s are work but with each passing month they get easier to the point it passes by and you ask yourself when did they stop doing all those bad things haha. Of course I’m still waiting for Blueberry to stop chewing toilet paper and eating dirt and digging!
 
At about a year of age. Meadow got spayed at about 11.5 months of age, and then started her puppy blow, she is now looking like a hairless Sheltie.... just a very thin top coat and no undercoat. Nice for summer, but I miss my fluffy butt girl! It will come back. They often don't get their full adult coat until 2 - 3 years of age.

Varies by dog. Benson was over a year old. He was a heavy coated puppy too. I couldn't believe the fur coming off that dog! I would run the brush up one leg and it would be full...like 13 times on one leg LOL. Fillion didn't do that when he blew his puppy coat, but his wasn't heavy like Benny's to begin with. The sheer volume of fur was amazing. It filled a trash can.
