Brooke update

Just a quick update. Brooke continues to do amazingly well. I had a chance to talk to my vet and review the ultrasound images when I took my kitty Mario in for his annual exam. She spent a fair amount of time going over it with me. The mass is about 3 cm big, tucked under her liver, so not really sure if it's liver or spleen exactly, not that it matters. She said it is more solid, instead of like a balloon holding blood, so I think that may be a bit in her favor. She also told me that she had a dog survive for a year on the Chinese meds! And that dog's initial recovery was not as robust as Brooke's.

I did ask her though, was the fact that Brooke was absolutely back to normal energy and very spunky any sign of possible longevity, and she said no. :( At some point it will be an uncontrollable bleed. I was hoping the fact that she is doing incredibly well was a sign that she would have lots more time. However, in my heart, I DO think she has lots more time. Just a gut feeling, and I hope it's right.

Thanks to each and every one of you for your much appreciated support and words of compassion and wisdom. My husband and I really feel supported.
 
Sharon, we are SO with you hoping that Brooke has lots more time. I asked my holistic vet about your particular Chinese herb (wondering if it would be good for Checkers) and she said it has wonderful properties for controling bleeds and tumors of that sort. We are all hoping and praying that it continues to work its miracle for a very long time. Pats to your precious Brooke.
 
Sharon, it sounds as if Brooke is enjoying life...that is wonderful. Even though vets have the medical knowledge, no one knows your Brooke as well as you do and right now she is letting you know that she is doing great and hopefully that will continue for a long, long time!!

Sharon, Brooke is going to surprise all of us I am sure of that by all your positive posts. I believe in the power of positive thinking in this case! If you were sad and showing it I am sure she would pick up on it and that could cause her stress which she certainly does not need!

I could not believe when Laddie was diagnosed with cancer they game him months and he lived a year!
The vets were shocked. My hospice vet said in all her years in veterinary medicine she never encountered it before!

Thanks for asking, Ann! She is doing fabulously well. Like nothing ever happened. Hard to believe she was really on death's door two months ago. Today my hubby and I discussed taking her back to Nosework class. Last Tuesday she KNEW, before I even got up from the dinner table, that it was Nosework night and she was so excited, and then so sad when I went without her. :(

I have emailed my instructor to see if she can come to our next session and just see how she does. She's not one to be frantic and worked up in the car waiting between turns, and we have been (carefully) lifting her in and out of the stroller every day. It's all about the quality of her life right now. My vet said she's had a dog survive for a year on the meds, so there is absolutely no telling how long she has. She just loves that class and practically drags my hubby in to the room for her turn.

I will update if she goes and give a status report! Keep your fingers crossed! :fl
 
That is just fabulous news, Sharon! I am so happy for you and Brooke. It gives hope and encouragement to everyone who has ever gotten a terrible diagnosis. I bet she'll shine at Nosework this week. She just wants to prove them all wrong. Go Brooke!! (y)
 
Sweet Brooke will surprise you i’m sure. Laddie lived 9 months after he was diagnosed. Wishing the best of days for you both.
 
I am sure seeing her enjoy the class will be its on reward, just like me watching Gavin on the beach :)
