I drove back home this morning with Scout. I gave him the tramadol and cerenia one hour before we left. We drove through torrential rain and thank God he slept right through it with no drooling or vomiting. The tramadol is just enough to make him sleepy but not comatose. It was so upsetting to see him so anxious and sick on the way to my daughter’s. I never want to see him suffer like that again. While we were there he was on his best behavior. It was a strange place for him, but he was so well behaved. He didn’t bark unless there was a reason for it and he loved all the strangers he met. My daughter is a personal trainer who has a gym in her house, so he was adored by many for a whole week. We also took him on our daily short trips in the car to her new house without meds. He drooled, but did not vomit and he seemed more relaxed every trip. I believe that daily short trips in the car will greatly help his anxiety. I am going to try the Gravol next because the cerenia is far to expensive to use daily. I have so much love and respect for this precious dog. He came from a breeder who knew how to establish a great line of champion shelties for show and agility, but had no idea how to prepare them for a new home. He has come from a puppy that was afraid of every noise and every new day to an almost six month old puppy that is able to control himself in most situations. I have dreamed of having a Shetland Sheepdog in my life for many years, but I had no idea the challenges I would face. I almost gave up, but thanks to the sheltie lovers on this forum I was able to find a way to cope that was good for me and also good for Scout.
I thank you for your knowledge and your compassion.
