Chronic tummy problems

He seemed to perk up this afternoon, came out into the backyard and barked at the hose; he's sleeping now. Also wanted some dinner so I gave him a small amount of beef and pumpkin. If he doesn't have another attack in the next half hour I'll give him a little more when he wakes up.

I didn't give him any medication today, no Apoquel and no Previcox, so be interesting to see if that affects his levels Now I'm going to sit down and move some money around to pay for the vet tomorrow, and pull out all my insurance claims.

It's bad enough that Deska is so bad, it hurts so much.

That you also have to have money problems, so it is inhumane.

When I had to drive to the night veterinarian with my former GSD,
I had to drive home at. 2 at night without my beloved dog

I had to pay 2581 usd. and no dog anymore.

Yes, it is expensive and we will do all that is in our power for our best friends
so we have no choice.

Took him out for a walk and he did great, even though he hasn't had the NSAID in a couple of days. He's been smiling and sniffing around and importantly - HIS EYES LOOK WHITE, instead of yellow. Will still be getting the scan tomorrow, in case it's a gallstone that's blocking the duct on and off. But suspiciously he has also been off the Apoquel for a couple of days. The emergency vet (a young woman) did say she didn't think Apoquel would make his liver enzymes that extreme. But I dunno, if we re-test and it's dropped down tomorrow...
 
We will take any good news no matter how small.

Eating and interest in sniffing and barking are all good signs. Little meals worked for all my Shelties when they were ill. I ended up trying to feed Logan 4 times a day with smaller portions to help in his digestion.

At this point, it is a good thing that Deska is a food hound!

I'm so glad he seems to be feeling a wee bit better! Hopefully it's just gallstones but yes, good idea to get the scan anyways.
It's so hard when our dogs get old...so many things can go wrong!
 
I'm so glad to hear that Deska has improved, and also glad to hear that you're still getting the ultrasound. Before Checkers' and Lacey's gallbladder surgeries, they showed no symptoms but both had the beginnings of mucocles. We never would have known they were in danger without the ultrasounds. A scan will at least rule out the worst stuff and put your mind at ease which, although draining to your bank account, is good for your health too!

I don't know if you have this in Australia, but I don't know what I'd do without CareCredit. It's a charge card you can use for vet bills (or human medical bills) interest free for a period of however many months the vet offers. I would never have been able to do all the surgeries mine needed this year without it.

Bad bad news. The scan showed lots of nodules in the spleen, swollen bile ducts. It looks like an aggressive cancer. Going to pick him up at 4.30, then got dog club assessments, think I'll just pass everyone. Booked for urgent CT in morning. If it's cancer he prob will only have a week. My heart is breaking. Will update later.
 
My heart is breaking for you!!! I wish we could be there in Australia with you to give you an in person hug.
 
Caro so sorry to read this, I feel so much with you
- although it is so hard now - you know at least what little Deska is going through right now.

It is this stage we all are so afraid of
