Chronic tummy problems

How are Tully and Deska doing?
I love my senior boy, but I have to admit his special needs have definitely affected me in multiple ways.
I don't regret any of it, but I have my days were it really depresses me.
 
Aargh. Someone peed on carpet this morn, prob Tully. Deska's bilirubin levels extremely high. Emergency visit to vet. I'm now at physio. Long story. Will update when I head back to vet after this.
Aaaaaaargh
 
OH no Caro, I hope everything is ok with Deska!
Never a good thing when one of the dogs pee's on the carpet...in my house I have 90% hardwood but if Finnie or Riley has an accident I swear they looks for the carpet! I barricade the living room because Riley has decided this is his favourite spot to go!
 
Deska's liver enzymes are extremely high. ALKP is 1797 (normal is 23-212) and ALT was so high the machine at the vet couldn't read it. All the other liver readings were high too. He had bloods in October which were all very good, and an ultrasound at the same time which showed nothing, so this has come on very suddenly.

Vet thinks blocked duct or gallbladder mucocele. I'm thinking Apoquel (the skin drug). He is booked for another ultrasound on Thursday, but if he goes downhill before then we need to be prepared for the emergency vet and the normal vet gave me all the bloods just in case. God knows how I will last 2 days!

And as those of you with seniors will know - then there's the cost...
My blood pressure is through the roof atm and I was meant to be staying quiet and calm. So much for that!
 
At the emergency vet now. He was crying after dinner. Maybe a bilious attack? Guess he'll be in hospital overnight.
 
So tired. Brought Deska home with me after a 2hr wait. They said if I leave Deska overnight they'll do an ultrasound (through the attached specialist centre) but if I don't leave him I could only get an ultrasound on Friday. Really annoyed, apparently it's only an emergency if I pay the $ to leave him there (the consult alone cost $220 and I just don't have the money atm). Ironically, all the vets and vet nurses on tonight are from my usual clinic (each clinic rotates staff through the emergency centre), where they charge considerably less so if I get through the night I can just see them tomorrow.

I wonder now if it was a gallbladder attack caused by eating. It happened about half an hour after he ate, and his odd behaviour on Sat was about half an hour after he ate. He's exhausted and miserable but not whimpering, so hopefully we'll get through ok. I'll be sleeping with him on the couch tonight.
 
Caro, I totally understand that you needed to bring Deska home with the costs being so high at the emergency vets office! Seniors have so many costly
health issues it makes it difficult to cope emotionally, financially, physiologically, and physically in your case too. My heart just hurts for you and Deska at this time!

Please know I am sending prayers and virtual hugs your way in hopes that it make the some difference in your situation!

OMG that is a ridiculous system they've got! I totally understand why you felt you should wait until the following morning.
