Colonel Underpants: The New Chapter

Chris, I am so happy that Beckon had a comfy night and is already peeing and pooping...most dogs take a few days before their system functions. He sounds like a real trooper...just be very careful not to let him overdo even when he feels fine. Beckon may not hit any down periods, but right now his body is still under the influence of all the meds he got during surgery and once these wear off you might see him show some discomfort or seem a bit down...if that is going to happen it typically hits around day 4 or 5 post surgery. However, your boy may sail through the entire healing period with gusto. WTG Beckon!!!

what great news! I am glad he adjusting so well..
I know Gavin does much better running/trotting/hopping on 3 legs at a fast pace than walking. I have to run/walk to keep up with him :) He just has a limited amount of energy in the tank and once that is gone he slows down.

happy dance for beckon !

Nothing keeps the Colonel down! Beckon had a great night -- no indications of pain. I have sub-q pain meds I'm giving every 12 hours, plus antibiotics, etc. He's eaten dinner last night and breakfast this morning. He's been out to pee and poop. And RUN!! I kept having to say, "No! Come!" Tail wagging, looking for the perfect spot. It's going to be a challenge keeping him to a slower pace, but the experts do say it's easier at first for tripaws to run than walk. His incision looks great, and his balance improves by the hour. He had a good night -- I'm the one who kept waking up.

Nurse Layla slept downstairs by his x-pen, keeping close to both of us. He hates his inflatable collar, but I ordered a onesie from Amazon that will be here today. That should help immensely.

All your prayers have been applied to great effect, and we thank you!

Such good news! (Not sure why this post made me cry.)

This is so uplifting to hear, Chris. :) My gosh it's beyond expectations. I'm so very happy to hear this news, and send best wishes for continuing uncomplicated recovery for Beckon.

It's hard to keep him from overdoing, especially when I take him out. He's getting tired, I can tell, and falling more. I put him in the xpen to nap.
