Colonel Underpants: The New Chapter

Whew! This is great news Chris. Yes, my hospital nurse training has come in quite handy for caring for the dogs. I hope you are able to get some rest now as well. Thank God for Trini giving all of us the benefit of her experience and wisdom. I learn stuff here almost every day.

What a relief! Especially for poor Beckon. We all can relate to how uncomfortable a full bladder is! You and Sharon having nursing experience is such a gift. When I had to give insulin injections to little Jasmine and SubQ fluids to Logan I felt like I would faint at first! I HATE needles. Once you get over the fear and you know you are offering a benefit it becomes easier.
I have always said it takes a very special person to be a nurse and they have my utmost respect!
So glad Beckon is feeling better!
Maybe we can send you to the spa for a few hours to get a massage and a hour or two of relaxation. You certainly deserve it!

If there's one recurring line I heard over and over again during my career it was some variation of how that person could never do what I did--teaching kids all day long, and respect for teachers etc etc.
Well that's how I feel about nurses. I have literally passed out in hospitals before LOL. The Colonel is a fortunate dog to have his Commander be so skilled!
Hope things have settled down and you can pour a stiff drink (or whatever) and try to relax. Pretty sure you could use one!

I cant wait to see Beckon in his onesie :)
I know the trials of dog nurse/caregiver all to well.
It is so worth it, but it is very much undervalued/underappreciated/under-acknowledged.
The onsie didn't work. And I found a place that does amputation onesies, but it took too long. But I do have a Ruffwear Flagline web harness coming today.
I'm still exhausted.

it will be a tough couple of weeks. :(. but it will get better. and it will all be worth it! i know gavin and i are much closer now than before all his stuff. the trust he has in me is endless.

i slept with gavin for weeks with him basically tied to me. i should have just dragged my mattress to the floor and it would have been way better fir me

Sleeping with him in our small guest room has helped. And Cindy, you're so right about the closeness. I'm sitting in the penned area by the sofa, and he's resting with his head right next to my feet.

Chris, I was exhausted for months caring for Brooke. If you can, nap while he's napping. I think a lot of it is the emotional toll, it just takes it out of you. It likely WILL be a rough couple of weeks, but there is definitely a light at the end of the tunnel. This is the time to literally take life hour by hour, but it too shall pass. Many hugs coming your way.

Every time we think our bond can not get any deeper it does. These dogs never cease to amaze me with their capacity to understand our deep and abiding love we have for each other.
They are our world...
When non dog people say to me, don’t dogs stop you from living life by not traveling, etc. I just respond that is why I want to stay home. They are my kids and my life.
While many days can take a toll with sickness we treasure them even more. They are there for us unconditionally. We see no other option but to return the love and kindness they give us.

Although it saddens me that Beckon, Gavin, and dear departed Brooke go through medical trials... it warms my heart knowing you all love and care as much as I do for shelties in our care!
