Dog Wheelchair

So today we had a vet visit. He has gained 2 lbs since last fall (using the cart so much and not walking as much has turned out to be a bad thing on multiple levels), but we will work on that. Based on his cough, she thinks he has a collapsing trachea. Gavin had a senior panel done. When he was laying down for his urine and blood draws (in some weird cushion contraption to help keep him still) He was super still. The tech was surprised that he stayed laying down after they were done... I had to tell her he was waiting for permission to get up :)

So everything was great except he has high cholesterol. She gave me 320 as normal, and he is 420 (it was a voicemail). This was fasted, but when he had his summer visit he had similar values unfasted...

Gavin hasn't been hacking as much this week. I can only think he is doing better because we are walking more or using the chair less. The chair harness doesn't hit his throat, but I suppose it could irritate a collapsing trachea since it sits across his chest?

Glad to hear it. Depends on how low the chest strap sits. Hope you have a nice weekend and can get Gavin out a bit, supposed to rain here again on Sunday, good grief. That's usually the day we do our long walk on the bluffs.

Happy to report the coughing/gagging has dramatically dropped off in the past week until it is back to previous levels of 1-2 times a day. The harness strap does ride across his chest, and is possibly the culprit. we did see some dogs yesterday, not as many as I'd like but enough for Gavin to have some fun. And we did our weekly stroller walk to the library, where Gavin gets to come and walk a bit and sit in the sun and relax while enjoying the breeze off the bay.

Glad to hear about the coughing. Brooke had cough attacks due to allergic bronchitis and it always made me feel bad for her.

It got pretty bad for a while there (at least to me). He never had allergies before so I don't think it was that.
I guess we will just limit his wheelchair to the beach and maybe Golden Gate park. The local park is kinda done for the season (gets too hot) even though Gavin likes seeing all the dogs. I am still hoping to work up to regular walks at least down to the corner and around (it it maybe 2 times longer than what we currently do)
