Dog Wheelchair

So sorry to hear Gavin is struggling more with his mobility. Please don’t beat yourself up for not noticing his disability earlier. I had the exact same thing happen with Mr. Chance. Once the atrophy starts it is so difficult to reverse unless they are young and healthy.

I tried exercises as you are doing in hopes of heading off any further decline. The massage therapist helped a bit. I wish I had aqua therapy to try.

Anyway, I pray you have more good days than challenging ones! Pat that sweet head of Gavin for me!

The past 3 nights he hasn't been up on my bed at night as much (he was up once last night, none the night before). I did notice that, but he has been more snuggly on the couch. I really am wondering what could cause so quick a change? we did go on 2 walks saturday and went to fort funston sunday where he was not visibly different. sigh....

I bought a harness that helps you lift your dog's rear end. the help me up harness is the best obviously, but I picked one u cheap knock-off on amazon for $17. If it appears to be of use, I will get the pricey original. I am hoping it helps me do PT type exercises, which can be hard for me to support the rear end.

this is what I got, the front harness looks pretty flimsy, but I don't need that except to keep rear harness in place

I was looking at that one on Amazon as well (your $20.00 harness is 83.00 Canadian! ...crazy!). I sent an email to the Canadian distributor of the Help em up harness so hopefully I'll get a reply tomorrow. They talk about getting your dog fitted for it but they're in Toronto and I'm in Winnipeg...not a short distance lol...hopefully I can email them his measurements. The Help em up looks like a good product and would help in so many ways. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to get him in the stroller...if I put his front paws on it and then lift his hind end he will help but man he's heavy and it's awkward! Using this would make it so much easier!

It had been heartbreaking watching Gavin's leg slip out from under him. He ends up sitting. happens a lot on carpet, not on concrete or asphalt. He has had failed attempts to get into his chair via ramp as well as my bed (he did make it twice last night, but since I am sleeping I have no idea how many failed trips there were). He even has a hard time getting into his dog bed with the bolsters (which he loves). I have a bolstered dog bed with an open side right next to it that he uses more now as it is easier to get into.

This has been happening more and more over the past week (no more), and now has gotten very prevalent. we did do a bunch of tripod stands last night and he was OK with them.

I know how you feel Cindy, Riley at times has similar issues (with him though it's the whole rear end), he's lost so much muscle since this all started (didn't notice it really until last September but looking back, he stopped jumping on the bed last June/July, but we'd attributed that to the heat).
I got an email from the Canadian distributor for the Help em up harness and I just need to send his measurements for his neck, chest and waist. She's thinking he's a small (125 plus shipping)...I don't know how he'd be a small at 19" tall but we'll see when I send the measurements. It's 150 for the medium so I hope he's a small lol. I figure at 83.00 for the cheap one on Amazon I'd rather spend more now and get the best.

So I looked up the exchange rate, and 125 CD is about 90 USD, which is the same I would pay for the help me up. At least something where you don't get ripped off!

Mine is supposed to arrive tomorrow...so I can start PT stuff. poor guy was falling on his behind this morning a half dozen times!
I remember earlier this month when I got the webcam I had to turn off motion alarm detection cause Gavin was moving around so much...this past week I haven't seen him at all on his chair and while he does get on his couch, he doesn't move around as much (going up for an hour and then down for an hour) .
I have an SD card in it, I should go look at the footage to see how and when things changed...
