Dog Wheelchair

I know being stuck so close to home was depressing him. He was always a big walker and hiker, never wanting to go home. So having him want to keep walking in his chair is great news for me. When I was using his stroller before as a backup on walks at the park, he would actually go in on his own when he was tired.
He loves car rides because it means someplace new :) So I am hoping to increase his stamina so we can try old places he hasn't been to in over a year.

These wheels make the whole getup much quieter, less jostling.
We now leave from the garage as it is tricky to navigate a traditional door with the bigger wheels, so the wheelchair lives out there.
So slowly my living room is becoming less cluttered with dog paraphernalia.
I really haven't wanted anyone to come over since it was so overwhelmingly messy looking, so I feel better now too.

Oops..that was something from work. Don't know how that happened. Must have been multi-tasking at the time!

I wish! Gavin (and I) will have to wait until after work. I am sure he is just sleeping peacefully on his couch right now anyway!

I think the videos are great and I love how he checks in with you - looking up, "hey mom, let's keep goin' !! "

So heartwarming that he is able to get out and enjoy life and your walks together!!

This morning Gavin was eager to follow me to the garage for his morning walk.
we have settled on every every other day it seems.
Anyway, we went to a local park area. Approx 1.2 miles in 50 minutes. Gavin REALLY likes walking on grass, like when I am walking on the path he would often choose to walk on the grass beside me.
He did a lot of sniffing at the p-mail (places other dogs have peed on), but we didn't see any other dogs, which I was hoping to as I know Gavin loves greeting other dogs.
He did not like the 3 blocks we were on a sidewalk, and OK with gravely asphalt walking paths.
Has me wondering if his bad paw is also super sensitive. I can try walking him with his booties.... (he doesn't walk without a limp with the booties on, FYI)

When my senior dogs got older and did not walk a lot I did notice their pads got really soft and they were more sensitive on harder surfaces like cement and pee gravel.

So Gavin lost all his paw pads on his bad leg during radiation. It took a while for his new pads to 'toughen' up.
There was a time a few months back I had him in his booties 12 hours a day for a week or so, and his pads got noticeably softer.
So I stopped that as it seemed to affect his stability on his bad leg (slipping a bit more when walking in the house).
This will happen when he is boarded over Christmas as they have linoleum and I like him to have them on for traction there.
It will take a week or so to toughen them back up in January. But having him in his booties for a few hours a week for walks is different.
