Hi All, just a brief update! Our two little boys are still in the hospital. The younger one (we need proper names!) came in with kennel cough which turned into pneumonia. He is on IVs now, and is not eating, but remains in good spirits and is alert. That is always good news. The older boy had very bad diarrhea (the main reason he needs a re-groom!), which, thankfully, appears to be resolving. Their preliminary blood work shows they both have low thyroid, borderline kidney function, and good liver function. All the blood work will be back tomorrow, so we will know more then. They will need to be hospitalized for at least several more days, and we are hoping that they will be healthy enough (the antibiotics will help with their dental infections) to be neutered soon, but I suspect it will be a while. They are both still 'shell shocked' and we don't expect to see much of their personalities until they are able to go into their foster homes and start to relax. More as I get it! Kathleen

As the Southland rescue is receiving sick dogs from the shelter, their vet bills are piling up quickly. They are now asking for help. If you can, it will go to a very good cause....

Hi All! Well, today we got in another sheltie from the Riverside 61. This is an adorable little bi-black girl, named Kiara, approximately 12 years old. She is sweet and responsive, but unfortunately, she is also very sick. . She went straight from the shelter to the hospital, and they are doing a full blood workup on her and will try to get to the bottom of what is going on with her. This is so sad, we have three of these dear sweet shelties, all with serious health problems.


The shelter worker who talked to Kathy and Judi said that it is very likely we will get more dogs, as they get down to the end. The shelter is concerned for the health of the dogs they still have, but are doing their best to manage them. Some people who have spoken for them are now starting to decline, as they learn their ages and conditions.

On a better note, we are doing three more home visits, so at least three more of the shelties should be going to loving homes soon.

I haven't heard any news on Wyatt or Walden today, so in their case...no news is good news! We love knowing all these babies are in good hands, but...you guessed it...the cost is rising extremely quickly. We so appreciate the wonderful donations that so many of you have sent, believe me! We absolutely could not do it without you. But, with three in the hospital now, it is time to ask again. I am NOT surprised people are backing out due to the age and health conditions. These dogs need to be in good health prior to going into loving homes! Even if it takes time... the right home is out there for them. We can wait... they do not need more trauma...
 
We just sent in our donation in memory of our beloved Laddie, a SSR rescue, and with prayers from our sweet Lady, our new SSR little girl. Judi is fantastic! Prayers that all of these special babies get well and the wonderful homes and love they deserve!!

I saw these babies first hand the other day, when I went to get Indy. They were all so calm. It was surprising. Kennel after kennel all with 3 or 4 shelties in them. Every size and color. They still look pretty well groomed. Thanks again to the efforts of all the volunteer sheltie breeders/lovers in the So Cal area!!

I just got an update on our sweet little Kiara. She has Pyometra and is in emergency surgery as I write this. Pyometra (usually shortened to Pyo) is a life threatening uterine infection. I will update you all asap, but for now we could use some good vibes headed her way! ~ Kathleen
