Ears Glued? Opinions

Just my own opinion but I would not start a puppy on pee pads or a litter box. I think it just teaches them that it's OK to go inside the house. You are better off just potty training to the outdoors right off the bat. We took Meadow out every hour at least to pee for the first two months she was with us. If you crate puppy overnight and take them out right away when they get fussy (might be middle of the night at first) they should keep their bed dry. Meadow actually slept all night for us from the first.

I totally agree!

this option is really only if you have to leave for more time then they can probably hold it. It wouldn’t be a regular option for the puppy. I am a SAHM so he’ll basically never be alone, but I really liked the puppy pen information from that dog trainer. He discourages the use of puppy pads for the reasons you stated. Here is the link:

The only reason I used the puppy pads was if I was out socializing him and he couldn't go on grass (not fully vaccinated ). Worked great with Piper (everything was easier with him lol). Got him to pee in my hatch AND taught him the word 'go pee' at same time.

With my 7mth old I went the glycerin mixed with talc route (thanks Ann) to give a slight weight, it was so much easier. Kismet's may have stayed down naturally but when she was teething one kept popping up.

It isn't standard to glue ears in Australia, but rather weight them, as the ears don't need to be so high set on the head. I used blue tac with Deska - but his ears probably didn't need anything anyway. Tully I tried chewing gum - that was a disaster as Deska tried to eat it. The breeder also used a sump oil mix on Tully but I couldn't manage it. So Tully's ears only have a very slight tip. Benny I did nothing with and his ears looked like a Kelpie.
So adorable!

Congrats on your new puppy!
Such a cutie! Make sure you take LOTS of pictures as they grow so darn fast!

Ear gluing or taping is a pain but the payoff is worth it!

Try to get a small puppy playpen as it better than keeping them in a crate!
Liam was great with being left in it being watched by Baron and Beau!

I brought one of those pens, had it sent all the way from the US. And Kismet got out the first week that I got her! Tried covering it and she just squeezed through the cover and I was worried she'd get strangled. Now she's decided to toilet in every bedroom in the house I need to contain her.

Your puppy is adorable! Congrats!

View attachment 16434 I glued my puppy, Kip’s ears. It was a bit of a pain, and I quit early, around 5 or 6 months. His ears turned out great. I mainly did it because that was the breeder’s preference.

This is how cute Kip’s ears are now
Oh my, Kip is so handsome!!! We decided not too since I was worried that my son would pull in the glue and we don’t really have an ear preference.

Was it wire? Mine is plastic. I hope that’s not an issue. I did buy a “small dog crate” and it’s gigantic for him (he is 4 lbs right now) so we’re also using our large cat carrier which is about half the size and he can still walk around in it. So tiny! <3
